The Amy Lowell Traveling Poet Scholarship: $59,000 for Poets

Applications are now open for the 2018 Amy Lowell Poetry Scholarship. The prize offers $59,000 to the winning writer. Upon acceptance of the prize, the writer is required to travel outside the United States for the entire year. The prize money increases each year, as adjusted for inflation.

There is no application fee.

The scholarship was established in 1925, when the American Poet, Amy Lowell, died and established the annual scholarship in her will.

There is no age requirement, publication requirement, or education requirement. Poets must be of American birth.

The deadline is October 15th, 2018.

According to the website:

In order to apply, please complete and send two copies of the following: the attached application, with (if you wish) a brief (2 to 3 pages) curriculum vitae, and with a sample of your poetry. The poetry sample must not exceed either (1) up to 40 typed pages or (2) if you are a published poet, one printed volume, plus no more than 20 typed pages of your most recent poetry. There is no minimum page requirement. No formal format. Please separate your original and the copy into two separate sets, mailed in one envelope. Whichever applications that are incomplete, not in duplicate, or are not accompanied by a sample meeting those requirements, will not be considered.
