STIR Journal Pays $250 for Essays on Controversial Topics

STIR is a magazine that publishes essays, interviews, and videos that cover controversial issues. They want “pieces that combine a strong personal narrative with a bit—or a lot—of well-researched reportage.”

They’re particularly interested in news oriented topics, such as social justice, politics, environment, and more.

They pay at least $250 per published piece.

According to their submission guidelines:

“We welcome pitches as well as completed work. If we love your pitch, we will encourage you to submit your work, but we can’t guarantee acceptance of the final piece.”

Expect a response within 4-8 weeks.

Most articles are 1,500 to 3,500+ words.
