Is Blogging Really a Paying Job?

If you have been looking for a great way to supplement your freelance writing income, you may be interested in blogging. This can be a great part-time job for some, and for a select few, it is a full-time gig. Those who are very successful at it have a huge following, and often their blog posts are picked up major media sources and spread from followers to their own friends and family. Of course, it is one thing to write blog posts and another thing altogether to generate any type of income from it, much less a full time income! So just how can you get paid for blogging?

Starting Slow

Blogging is not usually something that you will start doing today and get money next week from. The income derived from blogging comes from advertisers who want access to your group of followers, and so first you have to develop a loyal following before you can expect to earn a single dime. You will want to create your own little niche where you can be free with your voice, be expressive with your thoughts, and write content that others not just find interesting but actually look forward to reading, too.

Building Your Following

A following is not just about having random people click on your links but rather it is about having a regular group of people (hopefully a group that is steadily growing in numbers) click on your site again and again. This may start with you marketing your blog to friends and family on social media sites, making comments on other blogs and including a link back to your own, and other such strategies. If you expect people to keep visiting your site, they need to be subscribed to your site, and you also need to write regular content for the site. This generally means a blog post every couple of days.

Getting Paid

So just how can you get paid for your blog? There are various different ways. Sometimes advertisers will find you, but generally you will need to seek them out. You can consider sources like Google Adsense and essentially sell space on your site. You can also do what equates to paid endorsements in your blog posts, mentioning specific products, services, or websites directly in exchange for payment from those companies. This, of course, needs to be arranged beforehand or you likely will find that your endorsement was a free one.

Making the Most Money Blogging

As you can see, blogging can be a difficult way to earn a living, and so many people who aspire to be a full-time blogger will actually create and run multiple blogs each appealing to different markets. This way you can really multiply your earnings and generally can save some time in searching for advertisers if your advertisers are interested in space on multiple sites you run.

You will have to decide if blogging is right for you. If you are like many people, you may start out doing this on the side to see how well it goes for you, and then if you find success in it, you can expand your efforts to make it a major source of your regular income.
