Great Jones Street: $500 for Short Stories

Great Jones Street is a San-Diego based startup on a mission to build a massive audience for readers of short stories. Their stated mission is to “Bring Short fiction back into pop culture.”

Their plan is to build their audience via their app, available on the iPhone and Android phones.

They promise “endless entertainment, massive selection, infinite value.”

They pay writers $250 to $500 per short story. They also have an unusual method for curating their short stories:

“If you can get a recommendation from one of our writers, you’re in. Your story is in, the price is set, and you will get paid and published within hours. No haggling. No fuss.

We feel that’s the right bar to set for both quality and efficiency. We don’t take everything. But we do take our writers at their word. If they recommend a story and a writer, we’re game.”

The currently have 251 published writer. They plan on purchasing 1,000 stories per year –– an incredible pace.
