Chicken Soup for the Soul is currently seeking submissions for ten upcoming books. Once again, many of the deadlines have been extended from previous calls for stories.
Presumably, the shift in deadlines indicates that they’re still having trouble finding the right essays for their books. That means they’re still in need of essays, but also, of course, that there needs are quite specific.
I also recommend keeping a close eye on their website, as the deadlines sometimes get moved sooner unexpectedly.
According to their website:
“If we publish your story or poem, you will be paid $200 ($100 for devotionals) one month after publication of the book and you will receive ten free copies of the book your story or poem appears in. You will also become part of the Chicken Soup for the Soul family, you will receive our exclusive contributors’ communiqué and you will be entitled to buy cases of books from us at a discount.”
The following books have deadlines that are approaching:
- Preteens / March 30th, 2022
- Teenagers / March 30th, 2022
- Angels / April 15th, 2022
- Messages from Heaven / April 15th, 2022
- Miracles / April 15th, 2022
- Crazy, eccentric, wacky, lovable, fun families / April 30th, 2022
- Thanksgiving, Xmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa & New Year’s/ May 1st, 2022
- Cats / May 30th, 2022
- Dogs / May 30th , 2022
- How stepping outside my comfort zone changed me / July 31st, 2022
- The advice that changed my life / July 31st, 2022
- The power of positive thinking/ July 31st, 2022
Writers should expect a response within 60 days of the book’s “on-sale” date. If you haven’t heard back by that time, they have not selected your story for publication. They have a sort of strange company culture, which discourages negative communication – which is why they don’t send rejection letters.
