Alaska Air Magazine: Up to $700 for Your Travel Writing

Alaska Airlines Magazine is seeking submissions of writing for their in-flight magazine. They reach up to 2 million travelers a year in their monthly magazine.

This could be a great way to publish your travel writing. They cover over 100 destinations. Even if you don’t travel, if you live in one of the many destinations they fly to, you could write about your home town.

They helpfully provide an editorial calendar, so that you can tailor your pitches to their current needs. Prospective writers should send a query via email before submitting your work. I would recommend pitching topics that appear much later in their editorial calendar; they are likely to have their needs met editions getting published in the next few months.

They pay $700 for feature articles, $150-$250 for short articles, and $500 for columns. According to their guidelines:

“The Journal department is the best way to break into Alaska Airlines Magazine. Journal is a collection of short pieces that range from business personality profiles to new museum exhibits in cities served by Alaska Airlines. Stories might examine business trends and contemporary corporate issues; notable artists or influential community leaders. The emphasis should be on subjects of broad appeal, presented in lively prose.”

If you’re interested in submitting, be sure to read their editorial calendar, and their complete guidelines. They also publish free digital editions. Be sure to read an issue or two before submitting, so you have a clear idea of what they’re hoping to publish.
