8 Short Story Publishers that Pay $350+ per Story

Want to get anthologized? The following is a list of upcoming anthologies currently in need of submissions.

All of these publishers pay at least 6 cents per word. Expect payment up to $350 or more for stories that get published, depending on length. Keep in mind that some of these anthologies have deadlines approaching very quickly.

1.TAANSTAAFL Press is calling for submissions to their upcoming anthology “Enter the Rebirth,” the third in a series of post-apocalyptic anthologies of short stories. They pay up to 8 cents per word, averaging 3 cents per word. Stories can be up to 8,000 words. The deadline is December 15th, 2016.  Submission guidelines.

2. The Museum of Science Fiction is calling for submissions to their Kickstarter funded anthology, “Catalysts, Explorers, & Secret Keepers: Women of SF.” They pay at least 7 cents per word, and more, depending on how much money they raise. They’ve already met their minimum of $8,500, and appear on track to double the amount. The deadline is December 1st, 2016.  Submission Guidelines.

3.  Reckoning is currently open to submissions for their annual anthology. They want short stories, non-fiction, and poetry that addresses ” your searingly personal, visceral, idiosyncratic understanding of the world and the people in it as it has been, as it is, as it will be, as it could be, as a consequence of humanity’s relationship with the earth.” They pay 6 cents per word for prose. The deadline is November 1st.  Submission Guidelines.

4. Dreaming Robot Press is currently seeking submissions for the 2018 Young Explorer’s Adventure Guide. They want short sci-fi/speculative fiction stories aimed at a middle grade audience (8-12 years old.). They pay 6 cents per word. Stories should be 3,000 to 6,000 words. The deadline is January 31st, 2017.  Submission Guidelines.

5. The National Space Society and Baen Books is currently hosting a writing contest to honor science fiction that removes the limits of what “is” and shows us a boundless vista of what “might be.” The contests honor’s Jim Baen. They offer a cash prize, as well as free admission to the 2017 International Space Development Conference. The deadline for entry is February 1st, 2017. Entry Guidelines.

6, 7, 8. Zombies Need Brains just successfully funded 3 anthologies via Kickstarter. They are now accepting submissions for SUBMERGED, ALL HAIL OUR ROBOT CONQUERORS!, and THE DEATH OF ALL THINGS.  The anthologies include sci-fi/fantasy set underwater, 50s/60s themed robot stories, and stories with “death” as a character.  They pay 6 cents per word, up to 7,500 words. The deadline for submissions is December 31st, 2016. Submission Guidelines.
