2. Porthole Cruise Magazine is a consumer focused travel magazine on the topic of cruises and cruising. They publish cruise ship reviews, destination travel information, and photo essays. Mother Jones is a magazine that focuses on “national politics, environmental issues, corporate wrongdoing, human rights, and political influence in all spheres.” They want anything that “raises an eyebrow.” Expect top payment from this national magazine. 4. Vox, the very popular digital magazine, accepts submissions of personal essays. They want “in-depth, provocative personal narratives that explain the most important topics in modern life.” A payment report from last year indicated a payment of $500 for one essay. 5. Guideposts is an inspiration-focused magazine about “people who have attained a goal, surmounted an obstacle, or learned a helpful lesson through their faith.” They typically publish first-person narratives. They pay $250 or more for stories. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.

7. American Angler is a magazine all about fly fishing. They cover every aspect of the sport, with a focus on coldwater fishing for trout, steelhead, and salmon.
