Positive News is a London, United Kingdom-based website and quarterly print magazine that “publishes good journalism about good things.” They are commissioning stories about positive or constructive responses to coronavirus. They would love local/grass roots initiatives. The stories don’t have to be UK-based. According to their editor, they pay 25p/word. MobilisationLab’s media strategist is commissioning stories about creative grassroots feminist campaigns and adaptations to the Covid-19 crisis. They pay $250 to $500 per story (500 to 1,200 words). Future of Good covers “stories, innovations, and trends shaping social impact in Canada.” They are looking to expand their network of freelance writers. They want writers who have experience in journalism and are interested in covering social impact. They welcome writers from all over the world. At the moment, they are “almost entirely focused on examining the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic on the social impact sector, the systems we live in, and on our society — from racism and philanthropy to social safety nets and volunteering.” Their rates start at a minimum of $0.50/word. AreWeEurope is commissioning pitches for feature pieces (1,500 to 2,000 words) for their next issue: The Silver Lining. They are seeking “European stories of solidarity, creativity and compassion” in times of the Covid-19 crisis. According to payment reports, they pay an average of $0.07 per word. Details here.   

Deadline: April 15th, 2020

National Research Center for Parents with Disabilities is looking for essays focused on “the experiences of parents with disabilities during the COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic, including adaptive strategies, relationships, support needs, and barriers and challenges.” They will pay $100 per accepted submission. North American Guild of Beer Writers (NAGBW) is “the leading member organization of beer writers, authors, reporters, and podcasters who cover the beer industry.” They are seeking original stories, photo essays, and more for their new project, The Reporter’s Notebook. They are launching this new project “to showcase the people and businesses that are finding new ways to survive, and to support journalists at a time when opportunities (and outlets) are shrinking.” The stories do not need to be about Covid-19.
