$500 for 150 Word Stories

Apologies to our readers for the last minute notice, but Duolingo, the language training website, has a very short window for submissions of short stories.

They’re paying $500 for stories between 150 and 250 words. Considering the very short length of these stories, we thought it may not be too late for some of our readers to submit.

According to their call for submissions, they want:

  • Gripping fiction stories (they can be fun, romantic or scary… or all at once!);
  • Family-friendly, appropriate for the Duolingo audience;
  • Written in English (If selected, your story will likely be modified/simplified. We’ll handle translating it prior to publishing it on Duolingo Stories);
  • Self-contained. Your story has to have a clear narrative arc: something has to happen in it. If nothing happens, then it isn’t right for us. And at the end, the story should have some kind of resolution (i.e. it ends in a clear and final way). Imagine that you are telling this story to your friends: you have to include anything that’s dramatic, funny or interesting, because you want to entertain them!
  • 150 to 250 words.

The deadline to enter is June 8th, 2018.

To learn more, read their call for submissions here.
