1. First American Art Magazine’s goal is to foster a “critical dialogue about Native art. ” They aim to bridge the gap between academia and the general public. They present the arts from an indigenous perspective. A recent report on Litworth showed a payment of $525. They only want submissions from established experts in the field. 2. Cruise Industry News provides leading news coverage for the cruise industry. They publish a quarterly magazine, in addition to timely news updates on their website. Contact the editor here.

3. Ohio Magazine is a regional magazine for the state of Ohio, covering travel destinations, interesting Ohioanns, arts and culture, as well as local trends. They don’t list pay rates for writes, but pay rates for photography is publicly available, and competitive. See this link.  Read their submission guidelines here.

4. Pennsylvania Magazine is another regional magazine, covering the state of Pennsylvania. They pay up to $410 for features with photos.Even if you’re not interested in submitting to them, read their submission guidelines. They have a very helpful section on why a pitch might not be accepted. It includes great tips that are relevant to any publication. Read their submission guidelines here.

5. Western Art & Architecture approaches its coverage of arts and design from a lifestyle perspective, offering valuable insight for collectors, gallerists, artists, architects and patrons. Payment varies, but is commonly 50 cents per word. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.

6. Field & Stream is publishes articles on hunting, fishing, survival, guns, and gear. They pay anywhere from $100 to several thousand dollars. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.

7. Early American Life is a history magazine, centered on American history thorugh the mid 1800s. They publish articles about history, architecture, antiques, crafts, and travel. They pay around $500 for feature articles from new writers. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.

8. Hoof Beats is published each month by the United States Trotting Association, the governing body of harness racing in the US and the Standardbred breed registry. They pay $500 for feature articles. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.
