Hektoen International, the journal of medical humanities, is currently hosting a summer essay contest. The theme: food and the body.
The contest has a grand prize of $2,500, as well as a runner-up prize of $800.
The deadline to enter is September 14, 2018.
According to the contest guidelines:
We invite you to participate in theĀ Hektoen International Summer Essay Contest on the theme of Food and the Body. Please submit essays about food and drink as related to health and the body, using the lens of the humanities. Suggested topics may include, but are not limited to: the history of food, famine, or drought in ancient or contemporary societies; food and body image as portrayed in art and literature; the ethics of healthcare pertaining to issues of diet and weight; or cultural perspectives on food, the body, and health.
The essays are limited to 1,600 words. The contest is open to writers around the world, 18 and older.
