Stylist Magazine is a weekly magazine and a website for smart, successful, and sophisticated women. Their deputy digital editor is seeking powerful first-person stories on mental health for their Frame of Mind series. The deputy digital editor hasn’t mentioned the rates in her tweet, but according to their entertainment editor, they pay £150 for 800 to 1,000 words. Betches is “a female-founded and led media and entertainment brand that provides a space for all women to get real about life – funny, honest, & unfiltered.” Their senior editorial director is seeking fun/creative/hilarious pitches for a freelance story from the fans of Sex and the City / And Just Like That. Their editorial director hasn’t mentioned the rates in their tweet, but according to a now-deleted tweet by their digital content and brand strategy director, their rates start at $200. News from Science (by Science Magazine) brings to you the latest stories in science. Their European news editor is particularly interested in stories about “science policy and research community issues in UK/Europe.” Their rates start at $0.75/word for online-only stories and $1.25/word for print-only stories. Metro.co.uk covers news, lifestyle, health, food, sex, entertainment, sports, and more. They’re accepting pitches for first-person and opinion pieces. They pay £100 to £120 per piece. The Weather Network is “Canada’s #1 source for weather forecasts, news, and information.” They have a dedicated team that covers the climate crisis. They also accept freelance pitches to help them tell stories from communities across Canada. They offer a base rate of $0.50 per word for articles. The China Global South Project (CGSP) provides independent coverage of China in Africa and the Global South. They’re looking for “dedicated individuals and organizations passionate about shedding light on climate issues in relation to China’s development in Southeast Asia.” They’re accepting analysis, ideas, reports, and impactful stories. Andscape is a media platform exploring the intersections of race, sports, and culture. They’re looking for music pitches for June and July. They’re seeking pitches on the following topics:

– “Music — Reported pieces, artist interviews, cultural criticism, reported articles and essays reflecting on hip-hop’s 50th birthday, etc.”

– “Culture articles/essays about TV/Film/Visual and Performing Art (no reviews)”

The theme is “trace”, as in to “find or discover through investigation; to copy, sketch or superimpose; a mark, a sign, an inkling, a glimpse.” Published authors will be paid an honorarium of $100. Insider is a global news publication. Their senior editor is seeking parenting and health pitches. They are mostly interested in personal essays, but are also open to reported pieces. The National Survivor User Network (NSUN) is “a membership organisation of people and grassroots groups with lived experience of mental ill-health, distress, and trauma.” They’re seeking pitches for blogs (500 to 1,000 words) by “people with lived experience considering what care and safety means and looks like (or doesn’t look like) for people experiencing mental ill health, distress, and trauma in various health and wellbeing settings.” They’re only commissioning UK-based writers. Contingent Magazine is a history magazine. They’re accepting pitches for their summer mailbag roundtable: “What Do Professors Even Do All Summer?” They’re seeking “pitches from historians who act as faculty to undergraduates working in all institutions in all capacities, from grad students to adjunct faculty to tenured and tenure-track professors.” They will pay $100 per piece (400 to 500 words). International Journalists’ Network (IJNet) offers the latest tips, training opportunities, trends, and tools for professional and emerging journalists. If you want to share any tips and tricks that will help journalists globally, then send them your pitches. They pay writers $200 per article. Most of their freelancers work in English, but they have also added the opportunity to work in Spanish, Portuguese or Russian. To learn more, refer to their tweet and this page.

Sifted offers in-depth reporting on the startup ecosystem of Europe. They’re always on the lookout for new writers. They’re especially seeking people who can help them build contacts and uncover the real story in areas and sectors where they might not have a reporter or on topics they might have overlooked. They accept pitches for deeply reported features (1,500 to 2,000 words) on a topic or trend that is relevant to Europe’s startup ecosystem or those who work in it. They also accept pitches for exclusive interviews and news (600 to 800 words) on European startups and venture capital firms. Rate is about €250 for short pieces and €300 to €350 for longer pieces. Insider is a global news publication. Their senior editor of lifestyle/entertainment freelancers has tweeted, “Looking for butchers, grillmasters, culinary judges, restaurant owners/managers who shop at Trader Joe’s, Aldi, or Costco! New Scientist is a weekly science and technology magazine. Their feature editor is seeking pitches for their holiday and new year special. They want pieces that are light-hearted and quirky. Bolts is “a digital magazine that covers the nuts and bolts of power and political change, from the local up.” They’re always looking for freelancers to report on stories related to voting rights and criminal justice across the US. It’s Freezing in LA! (IFLA!) is an independent magazine about climate change. They’re accepting pitches for their 10th issue: PLANTS. They want ideas for “unique essays, interviews, short stories, and features on the theme of plants and ecosystems.” They accept pitches from writers based anywhere in the world. Black Girl Times (BGX) is “the source for thought-provoking stories and content for Black women, girls, and the people who love them.” They’re accepting pitches related to “anti-Blackness, Juneteenth, or freedom for Black Americans.” They’re especially looking for contributors who identify as Black, LGBTQ, disabled, women, and POC. Nurall is a tech startup that guides professional remote workers to explore worldwide neighborhoods. Their managing editor is looking for pitches and has tweeted, “Ever been to a Muay Thai Boxing camp in Thailand? Did you do it while managing to work remotely as a digital nomad?
