FanSided is a network of fandom-focused sports, lifestyle, and entertainment websites. They are accepting pitches for their Fan Voices vertical. They want “personal stories about the experiences of fans and how relationships with sports, teams, and athletes have rippled through their lives.” Their rates start at $100-$150. Guest writer needed for a language and culture-based blog: “The topic is ‘nourishment’— Nourishment is about the moments we take for ourselves to refill what has been expended. More than just nutrients, nourishment can be the rest that we give ourselves, shared joy that we experience, or love that someone wraps us in like a blanket.” The piece will be published on the website of The Dimmi Project and in an email newsletter. Vibemap is “a city discovery app that connects you with meaningful places, experiences, and people that match your vibe.” They are hiring freelance writers in San Francisco and Oakland. They would “love some help exploring thoughtful ways to go back out in the city and connect with friends (old & new).” They generally pay around $1 per word. Increment is a quarterly print and online magazine for software engineering teams. They are accepting pitches for their next issues. CHEESE is a magazine of culture. They explore people, place, and product. They are accepting pitches for their Issue 2. Each piece they “commission is to be focused on a specific cheese – you are telling the story of culture through the lens of a cheese.” “Ultimately this is a magazine about people, so even stories about place, need to be about the people and the community.” They’re open to short and long reads (between 750 and 2,000 words). They are looking for “how-tos, personal essays, and tips and tricks on food gardening.” They “especially want party-themed and children/teen related food gardening articles for the rest of the summer with quick turnaround.” Their rate is about $300 per piece. It is organized into roughly 8 chapters. Each chapter covers a different biome. They are currently seeking pitches for the chapter on Deserts — both cold and hot. They are seeking pitches for entries (300 to 450-word writeups of interesting creatures in that biome); sidebars (700 to 1,000-word pieces that dig deep into broader phenomena); and interviews (500-word interviews with those who interact closely with nonhuman members of that biome). They are seeking “freelance pitches for PC Gaming week in September.” “It can be about software, hardware or culture, as long as it’s related to PC gaming!” They pay 0.14p/word so for 1,000 words, they pay £140 and for 2,000 words, they pay £280.
