$20,000 Flash Fiction Writing Contest from The César Egido Serrano Foundation

The César Egido Serrano Foundation is currently hosting a flash-fiction writing contest with a huge prize: $20,000 to the winner, plus three runners’ up prizes of $2,000.

The stories must be 100 words or fewer.

The contest is being held in four languages: Spanish, English, Arabic, and Hebrew. Contestants can enter a story in any of those languages.

The grand prize of $20,000 will be for the best story in any language. The remaining 3 prizes of $2,000 will be awarded to the best story in each of the remaining languages.

The previous edition of this contest had over 40,000 entries — so expect the odds of winning to be extremely low.

Based in Spain, one hour outside of Madrid, the foundation has a museum, and regularly “hosts national and international radio and television programs, uninterrupted readings of Don Quixote, meetings between representatives of different cultures, regional and national politicians and personalities linked to the Academic and institutional world.”

The source of their funding is not clear; it is privately funded organization that is very well established.

The deadline to enter this year’s contest is September 30, 2021.
