Escape Artists: PodCastle – Holiday theme
This science fiction website and podcast is accepting work for a holiday-themed special issue. Stories should “incorporate a holiday that could take place in November or December by an Earth-based Gregorian calendar.” They accept reprints.

Length: 1,500-6,000 words

Fiyah
They accept speculative fiction and poetry by authors from the African continent and diaspora that reject regressive ideas of blackness. They are reading for an unthemed issue in October. Stories should be easy to read on screen.

Escape Artists: Pseudopod
This is a horror website and podcast, and they run several kinds of horror stories, ranging from literary stories to shock-value pulp fiction. They also accept reprints.
Reading period: 12 October-12 November 2018
Length: 1,500-6,000 words

The Iowa Review
This prestigious literary magazine accepts poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and translations. There is no fee for mailed submissions.
Deadline: 30 November 2018
Length: 25 pages for prose, 8 pages for poetry (query for longer poems)
Pay: $0.08/word for prose, $1.50/line for poetry

New England Review
This literary magazine publishes fiction, poetry, non-fiction, screenplays, dramatic works, translations, creative writing for the website, and art. They welcome work from underrepresented writers. They strongly discourage paper submissions, but will accept mailed works from those unable to use Submittable. There is no charge for mailed submissions.
Deadline: 30 November 2018
Length: Up to 20,000 words for prose, up to 6 poems

The Arkansas International
This magazine publishes fiction, poetry, essays, comics, and translated works. They do have a cap on the number of fee-free submissions a month via Submittable, after which they charge a fee, so it is a good idea to get the submissions in early in a month. They also have a different budget for the magazine with each issue, and for issue 4, it is $20/page, capped at $250.

Colorado Review
This literary magazine is open for submissions of short fiction and personal essays with contemporary themes, and poetry. While there is a reading period for fiction and poetry, non-fiction is read year-round. Query for book reviews. There is no fee to submit by mail.
Deadline: 30 April 2019 for fiction and poetry
Length: 15-25 pages for prose, up to 15 pages for poetry
Pay: $200 for prose, $10 per page for poetry ($30 minimum)

Boulevard
This literary magazine reads submissions from 1 October. They publish fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. They do not accept science fiction, erotica, westerns, romance, horror, or children’s stories. There is no fee for mailed submissions.

The Gettysburg Review
This literary magazine publishes fiction, poetry, essays, essay-reviews, and visual art. They want stories, whether traditional or experimental, which off-beat, penetrating, and surprising. They do not publish genre fiction, but will consider work that employs the trope of formulistic writing to more sophisticated literary ends. There is no fee for mailed submissions.
