Here’s our latest roundup of traditional jobs for writers. We’re starting to notice a trend that companies are hiring for jobs to “start as remote” but then eventually transition to in-office jobs. There has been a lot of discussion, in terms of how this will play out, as more people are vaccinated. It may be that more jobs remain fully remote than expected.

The Guardian is looking for:

• A Senior Technology Reporter/Editor, West Coast. The selected applicant will be responsible for breaking, reporting, and commissioning technology news and features. The applicant should have experience and contacts in the technology industry and beyond. The role is full-time and based in San Francisco, CA or Los Angeles, CA.

• A Reporter, Guardian US. The successful applicant will be responsible for reporting and writing “breaking news stories, live blogs, and news features on West Coast and general interest topics.”  The applicant should have at least 3 years of digital reporting experience. The job is full-time and based in Los Angeles, CA.

The Verge is a technology news website. They are a part of the Vox Media family. They are hiring for the position of Reporter, Streaming and Entertainment. The selected applicant will “cover the future of streaming and entertainment with a focus on the big players who are steering the industry.” The applicant should have 2+ years’ reporting experience. Spotify is a global audio streaming service. They are looking for:

• A full-time News and Social Impact Editor, Podcast Editorial. The selected candidate will “craft a podcast editorial strategy focused on curating news and social activism-focused content for Spotify’s core audience.” The candidate should have experience working with non-profit and/or community organizations. The job can be based in the Americas region or remote.

• A full-time Black Culture Editor, Podcast Editorial. The successful candidate will “craft the editorial strategy focused on building community for fans of Black pop culture from the broader media landscape.” The job can be based in the Americas region or remote.

• A full-time US Latinx Culture Editor. The successful candidate will “craft the editorial strategy focused on building community for fans of US Latinx content from the broader media landscape.” The role can be based in the Americas region or remote.

  Deadspin is a sports news site by G/O Media. They are seeking a Staff Writer who can write about a wide range of sports and can find their own story ideas. The candidate must have experience writing for a newspaper or an online publication. The role is full-time and can be based out of Chicago, IL or New York, NY. Details here and here.   BrainPOP is “an online K-12 educational solution that makes rigorous learning experiences accessible and engaging for all.” They are looking for a Copywriter to join their Marketing and Brand team. The copywriter must be passionate about education and have 4+ years of experience (preferably within the edtech industry). The job is full-time and located in New York, NY. For more information, refer to this page.   USA TODAY Sports is looking for a Senior Digital Editor to lead their digital operation and trending news desk. Sinclair Broadcast Group is a television broadcasting company. They are looking for:

• A National News Reporter who will be responsible for covering and developing stories for their daily evening newscasts. The applicant should be able to “conduct interviews with newsmakers and ad-lib during breaking news.” The applicant should have at least 5 years’ reporting experience (investigative reporting experience preferred). Men’s Health, published by Hearst, is a lifestyle manual for men. They are hiring a Gear & Commerce Editor. The successful applicant will “write daily gear and sales/deals stories, test and review a wide range of new products, and provide editors with CMS production support for affiliate and ecommerce-driven content across Men’s Health’s verticals.” The applicant should have 2-3+ years’ experience in digital media. The Salt Lake Tribune is a nonprofit newspaper that covers news, politics, sports, arts, culture, and religion in Salt Lake City and Utah. They are hiring:

• A Statewatch Editor who will “help cover what is happening in Utah by faithfully asking whether decisions that are made by those in power serve the people.” The editor should have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in government or accountability journalism and a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a team lead. The job is full-time and based in the Salt Lake City Metropolitan Area.

• An Accountability Reporter who will “dive in on the biggest stories of the day, and break stories that set the news agenda and push the news cycle.” The applicant should have a minimum of 3 years’ accountability reporting experience. The role is full-time and based in the Salt Lake City Metropolitan Area.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is looking for a Writer who will “serve as a key contributor to MIT’s dynamic daily news site, generating high-quality, authoritative coverage of the Institute with a focus on electrical engineering and computer science (EECS).” The applicant should have at least 5 years of experience in a news setting. The New York Times is looking for:

• A full-time Manager, Writer. The successful applicant will work on marketing copy for their “standalone products group, which includes New York Times Games and New York Times Cooking.” The applicant will mostly work on Games and occasionally on Cooking. The applicant should have 6+ years’ experience as a copywriter. The job is based in New York, NY. Details here and here.

• A full-time Copy Editor who will join The New York Times Editing Center (a 40-person editing and production operation that is based in Florida but is working virtually). The selected applicant will be responsible for editing and trimming stories for a global audience and also editing and designing the Times Digest. The Wall Street Journal provides coverage of news, business, politics, technology, real estate, arts, culture, and more from the US and around the world. They are looking for:

• A full-time Letters Editor. The selected candidate will select and edit the daily Letters to the editors (both in print and online). The editor will “expand the Letters exchanges online and increase their digital audience.” The job will start remotely but will eventually be based in their New York office. Details here.

• A full-time Platform Editor (Nights) to curate their native platforms (WSJ website and app) and to enhance the digital experience for their audience, with “a focus on evening and weekend consumers.” The selected candidate will work evening hours Tuesday to Saturday.
