The APC Feminist Tech eXchange is Looking for Pitches

The APC Feminist Tech eXchange (FTX) invites individuals, collectives, and groups to contribute their writing on any of the following themes:

“- Returning to the roots: How are feminist technology movements organising locally and collaboratively to respond to emerging tech needs

- How are feminist technology movements and actors understanding and responding to environmental crises”

RUNHER is “a space for narrative, longform storytelling around female, trans, and nonbinary athletes.” For Issue 003, they’re seeking ambitious pitches about women’s running. They’re especially interested in “exploring topics including track and field; adaptive running; the business and financial side of women’s running; the politics of women’s running; how running/track and field is evolving at the youth and masters level; and more.” Their features are 1,000 to 3,000 words and pay $0.50 to $1.00 a word. Freelance Writing Jobs is a newsletter that shares paying writing jobs in the UK. Their editor is commissioning at least 3 original features. Imagination, a leading brand experience agency, is seeking a Freelance Copywriter. The selected candidate will be responsible for crafting copy for a number of experiential projects for their key client in the New York office. Oregon Humanities Magazine is Accepting Submissions on the Theme of “Labor"

Oregon Humanities Magazine is a triannual publication that “connects Oregonians to ideas that change lives and transform communities.” They’re open for submissions for their spring issue. The theme is “Labor.” They’re seeking stories about work, effort, and toil. They hope to address work of all kinds: “physical, mental, and emotional, done for money, for pleasure, or for the benefit of our families and communities.” They’re interested in “labor as a collective effort, as in the labor force or the labor movement, as well as individual exertions.” They welcome “all forms of nonfiction writing from Oregon residents, including essays, journalism, criticism, and excerpts from forthcoming or recently published books.” Their features generally range from 1,500 to 4,000 words. Campfire Stories is Seeking Stories about the Oregon Coast

Campfire Stories is “a collection of books and card decks brought to you by Ilyssa and Dave Kyu to inspire deeper connections and storytelling in the outdoors.” They’re looking for nature and place-based stories for their new Oregon Coast collection. The stories should “capture the essence of the region, highlighting the distinctive natural features, flora, fauna, community, history, and experiences of the Oregon Coast.” They accept diverse forms of writing, for example, essays, prose, poetry, ballads, and short stories. Pieces should not exceed 2,000 words.

The Motley Fool is Looking for a Freelance Writer/Stock Analyst

The Motley Fool is a financial and investing advice company. They’re seeking a Freelance Writer/Stock Analyst to contribute at least 20 articles a month. Rates range from $50 to $140 based on the article’s length and complexity. Articles on the higher end of the pay scale typically fall within the 600-800 word range. This Magazine is a Canadian progressive magazine of politics, arts, and culture. They’re open to pitches for their next issue. Minority Africa is a digital publication that reports on African minorities using data-driven multimedia journalism. Asian Dispatch is “a pan-Asia newsroom and network, producing and publishing public interest journalism.” They’re looking for “pitches from journalists across Asia on stories around Asian societies, culture, politics, technology, and climate.” “Brownie points for those who can think beyond their regions, and pitch cross-border, on-ground reportage, sharp/in-depth analysis, and personal essays.” They pay $250 for pieces that are up to 1,500 words long, and $350 for longer, cross-border reporting. Apartment Therapy is a home and decor website that features DIY how-to’s, design lessons, expert advice, and shopping guides for creating beautiful homes. Their Lifestyle team is now accepting “pitches for stories tied to upcoming holidays, events, and observances in October, November, and December.” They’re seeking fresh, thoughtful ideas across their Lifestyle verticals:

Kill Your Darlings is an Australian online magazine that is dedicated to arts and culture. They’re open to non-fiction pitches. They’re seeking:

“- Intelligent and accessible essay/commentary (1200–2000 words) that analyses a cultural, political or societal issue of interest to KYD's progressive and engaged readership. Longer, investigative feature essays (2000–3000 words) will also be considered.

- Memoir or personal essay (1200–1500 words) that reflects on or tells us something broader about society, identity and/or culture.

- Smart, entertaining cultural criticism (1200–1500 words) that illuminates or engages with works and trends in art, literature or pop culture.

- Work that doesn't quite fit within the above categories but you think would be a good fit for us!”

What cursed objects, theories, trends, policies, or people are haunting today’s designers? What horrors from history, and harbingers of frights still to come, should we be paying attention to?
