$1,800 Short Story Contest

Sapiens Plurum just announced the 2019 Earth Day Short Fiction Contest. The contest offer $1,800 in cash prizes — and is free to enter.

The grand prize is $1,000. It is open to writers from around the world, aged 18 or older.

Writers are encouraged to write a utopian, positive story, about the world through your descendant’s eyes.

According to the contest guidelines:

Things to consider as you write your story: Let the reader see this future world through your eyes.  Let us see how people — whatever that means — try to live in harmony with the natural world and society, how they maintain their own health and happiness, how they overcome challenges.  But most of all, tell a good story, with characters we care about, setting, conflict, and resolution.

Your story should be consonant with the Sapiens Plurum mission: to inspire us — the first species that can intentionally impact its own evolution — to aspire beyond what was humanly possible. And with the Future of Life Institute mission: Technology is giving life the potential to flourish like never before, or to self-destruct. Let’s make a difference

Writers can submit their work starting April 22nd –– the deadline to enter is June 1st 2019.

To prepare for writing your story, they’ve linked to some recommended reading.

You should also read their previous winners, to get an idea of what they publish.
