Rest of World is a global nonprofit publication that covers technology’s impact beyond the Western bubble. Their Asia desk is looking for “pitches on tech issues facing the region.” The journalists “should have access to local subjects and be able to do reporting on the ground.” Rates are $400 to $600+ per piece. Pride Source is Michigan’s LGBTQ+ news source. Their editorial director has tweeted, “Attention queer writers! I’m looking for pitches that are home-related (home as an actual space OR home as something more conceptual). Looking to assign a story or two this week, so if you’ve got some strong gay home ideas please send ’em my way.” Rate is $100 to $250 (possibly more). Glamour is an online magazine for women. Their editor is looking for “pitches around sexual consent and the UK legal system.” They will pay £200 for 800 words. Atmos is a biannual magazine and digital platform that explores climate and culture. Their climate director has tweeted, “Are you a native/Indigenous journalist/writer who’s followed the Colorado river crisis? Looking for someone to cover for The Frontline at @AtmosMag w/ a focus on tribal sovereignty/rights.” According to their climate director’s previous tweet, they pay a flat rate of $500 for digital pieces. Inside Housing is a magazine (monthly) for housing professionals in the United Kingdom. They’re looking to commission a neurodivergent person (UK-based) to write on “ableism and discrimination in social housing – lack of accessibility, communication, understanding.” They will pay 33p/word. Insider is a global news publication. They’re seeking “writers who live in tiny homes and other interesting houses.” Rates begin at $200. For more information, refer to their editor’s tweet and this form.

Fast Company is a progressive business media brand that focuses on innovation in technology, design, leadership, and ethonomics (ethical economics). i-D is a fashion and style publication by Vice Media. Their editor is always seeking pitches (for opinion pieces and pieces on internet culture, film, and books). The editor hasn’t mentioned the rates in their tweet but according to their contributing editor, they pay £150-£200 per piece. If interested, send your pitches to roisin.lanigan@i-d.co. No Bells is a music blog. They’re currently seeking “interviews, listening guides and short essays about rap and internet music/culture.” They especially want to hear from queer, trans, disabled, working class and/or people of color. Texas Highways is the official travel magazine of Texas. They cover travel, culture, food, history, and more. They’re looking for pitches that “have a travel angle or a strong sense of place and/or Texas culture.” They’re also looking for stories with a historical focus. Common Sense is a nonprofit organization that helps families navigate media, technology, and digital parenting. They’re seeking freelancers to write reviews about Bollywood movies. They will pay $100 per review. For more information, refer to this tweet.

Distillations is a magazine by the Science History Institute. They’re looking for pitches. They publish historically grounded stories on science and the environment. Right now, they’re particularly looking for pieces on scientific racism. They pay $1.25 per word for features; a flat fee of $750 for argued essays, columns, and profiles; and $400 for interviews. Muslimmatters.org is an online magazine that brings to attention issues faced by Muslims, particularly in the West. They’re seeking “Black Muslim writers to write a critical review of the movie ‘You People’, specifically addressing the issue of pushing a Black Muslim woman character in a romantic relationship with a non-Muslim man.” They pay $75 per piece (at least 750 words). Inverse is an online magazine that covers technology, science, culture, entertainment, and gaming for a millennial audience. Their associate innovation editor is looking for a contract writer for their Innovation section. The section covers the technologies that will shape the future e.g. renewable energy, robots, commercial space industry, and EVs. The selected writer will pitch 1 story a week.
