Southwest Contemporary is Seeking Pitches on the Theme of Alien
Southwest Contemporary is “the leading resource for contemporary arts and culture in the Southwest.” They’re seeking pitches for their Fall-Winter 2026-27 print issue—themed “Alien”:
“We seek writers based in or closely connected to the North American Southwest to submit story ideas for our Fall-Winter 2026-27 issue, Volume 14: Alien. Pitches should be focused on contemporary artists working in the region who are grappling with political, social, psychic, and cosmic dimensions of the alien.”

The BREAK—DOWN explores “the political economy of climate and ecological crisis.” They’re accepting pitches for Issue #4: China.
“For Issue #4 of our print journal, we are looking for pitches that examine the complexity of China’s role in climate and ecological crisis. How has the Chinese state managed to hold apparently contradictory positions together? What role has the rise of Chinese renewable technology had in decentering hubristic assumptions about Western leadership or in accelerating the rise of a new Cold War? “In honor of Transgender Day of Visibility (March 31), Channel Kindness is inviting our community, including trans and gender expansive young people to submit powerful stories for a special series, Trans Visibility Stories: ‘Visible and Proud.’ Ten (10) storytellers will be selected to share their essays that integrate their lived experience with relevant research on the experiences of trans and gender expansive young people. Your story may be used to help inform future research, resources, and initiatives designed to support trans and gender expansive young people.”

The National Forest Foundation is an organization that restores and enhances National Forests and Grasslands. They’re seeking story pitches for Winter/Spring 2026 issue of Light & Seed magazine, which will focus on how tech and innovation intersects with National Forests and Grasslands in the U.S. Specifically, they’re seeking pitches for “The Response,” a department that “uses the pillars of solutions journalism to investigate how people are responding to an issue of national importance.” Rate is $1,000 for 1,000 words.
