NERVE is a zine that will take a personal look at TTRPGs (tabletop role-playing games). The zine’s first issue will be released in December. Right now, they are seeking 2 more writers to be featured in their first issue. They are “paying $0.12/word for 2,500 word articles dealing with analytical TTRPG talk, personal essays, or creative non-fiction in the realm of TTRPGs.” Send pitch ideas to JohnBattle117@outlook.com. TechRadar is a UK-based consumer technology news and reviews website. They will be hosting a LGBTQ+ Gaming week in September. For the Gaming week, they will be commissioning about 14 “freelance pieces surrounding LGBTQ+ in (and around) games.” They will pay £140 for 1,000 word features. Alma is an online community for Jewish millennial women who are trying to figure the “whole adult thing out.” They are seeking a Black Jewish person to write an article on Beyoncé’s retelling of the story of Moses in Black Is King. Passion Passport is a community-based travel website that features personal travel stories, travel guides, city guides, how-to guides, Instagrammer’s guides, and more. They are looking for “pitches for Fall/Winter 2020, with an emphasis on highly actionable, local content for travelers looking to stay close to home.” They also want to “hear from/about Black businesses and their owners as Black Business Month gets underway.” They will pay $50 for pieces that start at 400 words. The Gumbo is a hip-hop social club for and by Black women. They are accepting pitches for the month of September. The theme is “roots”. They are taking a look at the humble beginnings/roots of their favorite artists and their careers. Pay is $150 for pieces of 750 to 1,000 words. Black women writers at all levels can pitch. The editor of The Mendocino Beacon (a weekly newspaper for Mendocino County, California) and Fort Bragg Advocate-News (a weekly newspaper for Fort Bragg, California) is always looking for freelancers. Black Youth Project is a “platform that highlights the voices and ideas of Black millennials.” They are seeking pitches from Black writers, artists, poets, and/or cultural workers. Their theme this month is Black August: Resistance. They pay $100 for original pieces of 800+ words. Send your pitches to info@blackyouthproject.com. ArtsUNITE strives to “provide artists and creative entrepreneurs with a free, centralized, comprehensive and humanistic wayfinding service that connects people to resources in the arts.” They are looking for artists and writers to contribute to their website content. They want content that speaks to one of the following categories: financial resources or advice, career resources or advice, learning resources, personal stories, artist features, and space resources. The Dirty Spoon is a radio show and an online journal about the people behind our meals. They are accepting food-related pitches and personal essay submissions for their September-November radio shows and monthly journal. Their essays are usually 500 to 1,500 words. First Policy Response (FPR) is bringing “the Canadian policy community together to highlight the best economic and social policy ideas that will get Canadians through the pandemic” and prepare them to come out of it stronger. They are looking for pitches that have a public policy focus and are relevant to Canada’s COVID-19 crisis/recovery. They encourage submissions from contributors from underrepresented groups. They will give priority to Black and Indigenous writers and contributors. They will pay an honorarium of $250. Send your pitches to policyresponse@ryerson.ca. Ministry of Testing (MoT) is a global software testing community. They are seeking software testers to write articles for The Dojo (an online resource for software testing and quality). Sight & Sound is “the UK’s oldest film publication and an internationally respected voice in film criticism and journalism.” They are actively looking for new writers and contributors to further diversify the range of voices within their pages and on their website. They encourage pitches from all writers. They would “particularly like to hear from Black, Asian and minority ethnic writers, the LGBTIQ+ community, writers with disabilities and emerging voices.” They pay £120 for every 1,000 words. Sisi Mag is a Toronto-based quarterly lifestyle and culture magazine for the Black female diaspora. They are accepting pitches for their second issue. The theme of the issue is “hitting reset.” They are seeking “first person stories, critiques and analyses” from Black Canadian women about hitting reset. Media Diversity Institute (MDI) is an international organization that encourages “accurate and nuanced reporting on race, religion, ethnic, class, disability, gender and sexual identity issues in media landscapes around the world.” Their editor-in-chief is commissioning articles about media and diversity issues.
