Southwest Contemporary is Seeking Pitches on the Theme of Alien
Southwest Contemporary is “the leading resource for contemporary arts and culture in the Southwest.” They’re seeking pitches for their Fall-Winter 2026-27 print issue—themed “Alien”:
“We seek writers based in or closely connected to the North American Southwest to submit story ideas for our Fall-Winter 2026-27 issue, Volume 14: Alien. Pitches should be focused on contemporary artists working in the region who are grappling with political, social, psychic, and cosmic dimensions of the alien.”
They’re looking for studio visits/artist profiles (800 words); reporting (1,200 to 2,000 words); features (1,200 to 2,000 words); creative essays (400 to 700 words); interviews (500 to 2,000 words); cultural criticism (1,200 to 2,000 words); travel writing / field reports (1,200 to 1,500 words); and reviews (300 words). The BREAK—DOWN explores “the political economy of climate and ecological crisis.” They’re accepting pitches for Issue #4: China.
“For Issue #4 of our print journal, we are looking for pitches that examine the complexity of China’s role in climate and ecological crisis. How has the Chinese state managed to hold apparently contradictory positions together? What role has the rise of Chinese renewable technology had in decentering hubristic assumptions about Western leadership or in accelerating the rise of a new Cold War? How does China’s current role in global environmental politics relate to its historical and developmental trajectory? And how does Chinese environmental politics and power play out on the ground, whether in China itself, or through its extended network of debt and investment?”

Channel Kindness is a digital platform created by the Born This Way Foundation. They’re looking for stories in honor of Transgender Day of Visibility:
“In honor of Transgender Day of Visibility (March 31), Channel Kindness is inviting our community, including trans and gender expansive young people to submit powerful stories for a special series, Trans Visibility Stories: ‘Visible and Proud.’ Ten (10) storytellers will be selected to share their essays that integrate their lived experience with relevant research on the experiences of trans and gender expansive young people. Your story may be used to help inform future research, resources, and initiatives designed to support trans and gender expansive young people.”

The National Forest Foundation is Looking for Pitches for Light & Seed Magazine
The National Forest Foundation is an organization that restores and enhances National Forests and Grasslands. They’re seeking story pitches for Winter/Spring 2026 issue of Light & Seed magazine, which will focus on how tech and innovation intersects with National Forests and Grasslands in the U.S. Specifically, they’re seeking pitches for “The Response,” a department that “uses the pillars of solutions journalism to investigate how people are responding to an issue of national importance.” Rate is $1,000 for 1,000 words. Film Daze is Accepting Pitches
Film Daze is “an independent publication and media outlet that provides a platform for the unheard, and underrepresented voices of the film community.” They’re accepting pitches for their Issue 01. There is no theme. Payment is $120 for Issue 01, $150 for Issues 02-03, and $200 for Issue 04 and beyond, based on the paid subscriber base at the time. Shadowbanned Magazine is “unapologetic media for the next generation of the political left — independent, people-powered, and rooted in the worlds of politics and culture.” They’re accepting pitches for their Issue 05:
“Share with us your boldest essays, reviews, interviews, reports, articles, poems, features, and whatever else would never get a mainstream media editor’s approval. Work that challenges the status quo and pokes at the machinery behind it.”
“We’re looking for work whose ideology sits somewhere within the framework of the political left… and no, that doesn’t mean liberal. We’re not interested in critiques of dicktatorsheeps halfway across the world unless it’s our own in the so-called land of the free.”

Talking Shorts is Accepting Pitches on the Theme of “Filmmaking and Writing in Crisis?”
In 2026, Talking Shorts will launch a new annual print publication focused on “short film and moving image culture.” Each issue will be thematised, with the first issue exploring “filmmaking and writing in crisis?” They’re open to pitches for this inaugural issue. You can send them essays, (reported) features, and/or (conducted) interviews. A flat fee of €275 to €550 will be offered per piece (1,500 to 3,000 words). Speculative Insight is Accepting Pitches for September
Speculative Insight is “a journal that explores the breadth and depth of the themes, ideas, and issues of science fiction and fantasy.” They’re accepting pitches for September 2025. They’re looking for:
“- Essays from authors of Indigenous, Asian, Maori, Pacific Islander, Latinx and Black heritage;
- Essays about specific books, authors, or themes across a number of books;
- Thoughtful, rigorous, and analytical essays (footnotes not compulsory but welcomed); and
- Essays that focus on science fiction and/ or fantasy”
