11 Calls for Pitches on Social Justice, Human Rights, and Black Lives Matter

The following is eleven calls for pitches directly from editors. These editors are seeking articles about social justice, human rights, and the Black Lives Matter movement.

All of these editors are offering payment; most of them offer at least $100 per article, some offer significantly more.

Flood Magazine is a quarterly magazine that spans the diverse cultural landscape of film, television, music, art, and travel. They are seeking writers of color to help them cover the current protests. They are “hoping to do a story asap incorporating interviews with black artists who’ve been organizing/walking/detained in the past week.” Pay: $175. Rooted in Rights Blog is a platform that amplifies the authentic perspectives of disabled writers. They welcome pitches. They “want to amplify the perspectives of Black disabled people.” Anonymity is okay. They can pay a minimum of $100/post. Learn more here and here.

HelloGiggles is “a positive online community for women.” They are seeking personal essay pitches surrounding the upcoming celebration of Juneteenth. Liberal Currents offers “discussion, elucidation, and defense of liberal principles and institutions.” They are looking for pitches. They especially welcome pitches about criminal justice reform. Diabetic Living Magazine is a quarterly print publication that is dedicated to living well with diabetes. They are always seeking more voices to contribute to their magazine. They would especially like contributions from Black writers and writers of color. Their stories are divided into 3 main categories: service-oriented stories that focus on health and behavior change, inspirational profiles and feature stories, and recipes and cooking how-tos. Public Goods is a brand that offers well-designed, eco-friendly products to customers. Their editor is looking for a member of the Black community who wants to share “insights on recent events, preferably with angles of mental health and environmental justice.” Pay is at least $100 per post. The New Humanitarian is “an independent, non-profit newsroom reporting from the heart of conflicts, disaster, and other crises.” They welcome pitches for opinion articles/columns on the intersection of humanitarianism, racism, international development, global development, and Black Lives Matter. International Journalists’ Network (IJNet) delivers “the latest on global media innovation, news apps and tools, training opportunities and expert advice for professional and citizen journalists worldwide.” They are seeking “pitches about covering protests/police violence/race in the U.S. + abroad and more.” They will pay $100 for 500 to 800 words. RaceBaitr is a “platform created to explore the various ways race is expressed and defined with the goal of creating a world without all of its intersecting oppressions.” Their audience includes people who are committed to learning about anti-Blackness, feminism, queerness and their relationship to those subjects.
