Being Patient is an online community for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients and caregivers. They are seeking “pitches on Alzheimer’s/ dementia/ cognitive health (research, policy, news, caregiving, all of it)” from freelancers with experience in health/science writing. Wired is a magazine that covers the current and future trends in technology. Their Ideas editor is seeking essays on science and tech for their Ideas section. The pieces published in this section are complex and analytical and often include reporting. They are especially interested in hearing from underrepresented groups and voices outside the US. i-D is a fashion and style publication by Vice Media. They are looking for story pitches about “cult films, y2k fashion, online and offline subculture (COMPELLING tiktok nonsense ONLY).” They pay £200+. Guide Fall is a source for video game guides and tips. They are “looking for someone to help out with Horizon Forbidden West guide coverage.” They have a budget of around $500. Giddy is a sexual health platform. They are always seeking fresh stories on a range of topics including STDs, chronic conditions, physical and mental health, sex, parenting, marriage, and grooming. The Objective is a nonprofit newsroom that publishes articles on communities journalism in the United States has typically ignored. They are accepting pitches for pieces that cover “marginalized journalists and audiences in American newsrooms.” Rate is $200 to $600 per article. North American Guild of Beer Writers is a member organization of beer writers, reporters, and podcasters. They are accepting pitches for their 2022 Diversity in Beer Writing Grant. They are looking for:

“stories of all kinds from all over, and welcome submissions that tell stories about:

-Homebrewing

-Festivals focused on inclusion and engaging new audiences

-Efforts to advance knowledge and appreciation about beer

-Profiles of interesting people and organizations

-Topical news or historical insights focused on culture and community”

They are looking for personal essays on any of the following themes: “Fairytale romance, platonic love, or any love story you’d like to tell us.” Rate is $500. CIC News is a Canadian immigration news website. They are seeking analytical articles related to Canadian immigration. They want well-researched articles that help them “understand how current events and new policies are affecting newcomers.” They pay up to $1 per word. Popular Science is a science and technology magazine. They are looking for 2 new weekly sustainability contributors. They will pay $250 per 600 to 800 word article and will ask contributors to write 1 article per week. If interested, contact sarakiley@popsci.com. Wired is a magazine that covers the current and future trends in technology. Their business editor in the UK has tweeted, “I want to expand Wired’s freelance network in Europe and beyond for commissions in 2022! If you have plenty of experience reporting on tech/business and have great contacts and ideas, please get in touch. If you don’t have a pitch, say hi anyway! Economic Hardship Reporting Project (EHRP) is a nonprofit organization that produces compelling journalism about income inequality and poverty in America. They are currently seeking:

“narrative-driven first-person essays, reported features and op-eds tackling stories about economic inequality and how it relates to:

-Caregiving

-Parenting

-Queer/trans working class experience

-Reimagining capitalism (stories about radical but possible economic realities)

-Vaccines from the point of view of someone working in the service industry. Would love to hear the essential worker point of view on mask/vaccine mandates.”

They are always looking to assign stories “where income inequality intersects with religion, immigration, education, parenting/families, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, health, maternal health, disability, culture, housing, agriculture, aging, work, etc.” Rate is around $1 per word. Their editor is seeking “freelance pitches around planetary exploration, planetary defense, and/or the search for life on other worlds.” Their rates start at $1 per word and their articles are usually 800 to 1,200 words. Ms. Magazine is a liberal feminist magazine. They are accepting pitches for their March “The Future is Ms.” column from female-identifying teens (14-19 years old). The articles should be US-based and “highlight on a newsworthy teen who is making an impact on the lives of other teen girls on a feminist issue.” Rate is $150 per article (500 words). Sentient Media is “a nonprofit journalism organization seeking to create transparency around the role of animals in our daily lives.” Their newly appointed associate editor has tweeted, “Want to write stories on climate justice and solutions, culture, and agriculture with a focus on animals? IGN covers video games, TV, movies, tech, and comics. They are “looking to commission more (written) features from women, trans, and POC perspectives.” They pay at least $100. They have the following sections within the vertical: “Decoration, Renovation, Conversation, and Shopping.” They are open to interesting ideas for BHM and want to keep this energy going all year round. Their rates start at $200 (most of their commissioned stories are 700 words). They pay a flat rate of $300 for home tours (600 words + photo captions + 2 lists). BIPOC to the front. Prism is a BIPOC-led news outlet that covers voting rights, electoral justice, criminal justice, racial justice, workers’ rights, immigration, the environment, gender and LGBTQIA+ issues, and more. Their editorial director has tweeted, “I’m looking for BIPOC freelance reporters and op-Ed writers who are interested in covering the news in a way that centers our communities and other marginalized folks.” “I’m deeply interested in getting more coverage around education, housing, disability, climate change (esp. from Indigenous folks), reproductive rights + justice, unionization efforts/workers’ rights, incarceration/abolition, and more.” Rate is $0.40 per word. Healthline is a health information website. They are looking for trans journalists for freelance writing opportunities for their nutrition and fitness sub-brands on:

Canadian Geographic is a magazine by The Royal Canadian Geographical Society. They publish 6 times a year and cover geography, wildlife, environment, nature, climate, culture, and places of Canada. They are accepting pitches on an ongoing basis. Their assistant editor has tweeted, “From shorter front of book stories (think history, place, infographic) to longer features, hmu!” They pay $1/word for print features. They want “stories that expose why gender inequality persists, not just describes it.” They are seeking “stories from parts of less-covered world; from journos either from that place or with a deep knowledge.” They will pay $350/day for features and a flat rate of $450 for columns.
