Keep in mind that these are traditional jobs, not freelance opportunities. However, some writers have found success by pitching freelance work to companies hiring for traditional jobs.

Wirecutter is a product review site owned by The New York Times. They are looking for:

• A Trends Editor who will be “responsible for the editorial direction and workflow of daily quick-turnaround stories, including those during retail events, curated Wirecutter deal events, and other seasonal projects.” The applicant should have 5+years’ experience working at a media company with a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with and editing writers. The Coca-Cola Company is hiring a full-time Learning Content Editor. The selected applicant should be an adept storyteller and understand “how to write in a friendly, inclusive voice that represents the Coca-Cola University (CCU) brand as well as the The Coca-Cola Company culture.” The applicant should have 5+ years of experience in learning, content editing, creative, and graphic designer role. City Cast is a national network of daily local news podcasts. They are hiring for the following positions:

• Writer/Editor, City Cast Denver. The selected candidate will be the signature voice of their daily Denver newsletter. The selected candidate will follow the local news, and then write stories, headlines, and other tidbits for the readers. The candidate should have 3+ years of writing and/or editing experience, ideally in a deadline-driven environment. The position is full-time and based in Denver, CO.
• Writer/Editor, City Cast Chicago. The writer/editor will be the signature voice of their daily Chicago newsletter. The selected applicant will consume various sources of local news and culture and will write stories, headlines, and other tidbits for the newsletter. They are hiring a Personal Finance Editor to lead their personal finance editorial team and boost the audience to their site’s key content. Berkeleyside is a pioneering nonprofit digital news platform in Berkeley, CA. They are looking for an Editor-in-Chief with at least 7 years of experience in a fast-paced newsroom. • A full-time Senior Content Marketing Writer who will “be responsible for writing email marketing campaigns, recruitment emails, web and app copy, and high-level partnership marketing materials that bring the WW holistic wellness experience to life.” They want someone with at least 4 years’ writing experience in marketing / advertising. BuzzFeed is a digital media and tech company that delivers news and entertainment content to millions of people around the world. They are looking for a Writer, Branded Content. The selected applicant will develop BuzzFeed content for advertising partners. The applicant should have 3+ years’ experience writing and producing content online. The Washington Post is a daily newspaper. They are looking for an Opinions Editor to join their op-ed team. The editor will quickly find and work with “outside writers to produce smart and influential commentary in response to the daily news cycle.” The editor will also work closely with in-house columnists and bloggers. The selected applicant will oversee and adapt stories from their global editions for their Canadian audience. The selected applicant will also pitch and produce Canadian stories. • Articles Editor, Boston Globe Magazine. The selected candidate will be responsible for generating feature story ideas, recruiting freelance writers, and assigning and editing longform narrative features.
