These markets pay $50 to about $375 for fiction. A few also accept other genres, like creative non-fiction and poetry. They’re either open now, or will open soon. Deadlines are approaching quickly. – S. Kalekar

Night Shift Radio: The Storyteller Series
This podcast has The Storyteller Series and they choose two stories to publish each month. One story will be chosen for the Full Cast Audiobook treatment; that author will receive $50 for audio rights and non-exclusive print rights. A second piece will be chosen for their mid-month print only piece. The author of that piece will be offered $25. They publish fiction, nonfiction, memoir – anything that reads with tension and excitement. They read work from 21st-28th during certain months.

Cemetery Gates Media horror anthology
They are looking for horror fiction, for a ““Hellmark” movie/monsters ruin the holidays horror anthology”.  Also, “make it dark, creepy, scary, gory, and horrific while using the small town/holidays/crappy movie aesthetic.” Apart from this, they’re also looking for debut horror novels.

Apparition Lit: Justice
They want speculative fiction (fantasy, sci-fi, horror, and literary) and poetry on the ‘Justice’ theme.

Length: 1,000-5,000 words for fiction; up to five poems
Pay: $0.03/word for fiction; $30 per poem

ProleSCARYet: Tales of Horror and Class Warfare 
They want short fiction for an e-book anthology about the horrors of capitalism. Their guidelines say, “We want monstrous bosses, jobs from literal Hell, working class folks fighting back against great cosmic evils, and any other wild idea you can come up with. As long as it’s anti-capitalist and horror, it’s good. We also welcome dark weird fiction and horror-adjacent sci-fi.” The anthology is open to all writers, but they would especially like submissions from anti-capitalist writers of marginalized groups. Half the proceeds from this anthology will go to Labor Rights, an organization advocating for the rights of workers around the world. The other half of proceeds will go toward funding a future anthology project.

Lagrange Books: Worldbuilding Fantasy Anthology
This is a call for a themed fiction anthology; on politics as story conflict. Stories must include, as a significant plot element, a political conflict that makes up a key piece of the worldbuilding. They want fantasy stories, broadly defined. This includes traditional high fantasy, urban fantasy, or any other flavor that includes a magical or fantastical element.  
Deadline: 1 December 2020
Length: 3,500-7,000 words for short stories; 9,000-15,000 words for novellas
Pay: $100 for short stories, $200 for novellas

Cosmic Roots and Eldritch Shores
This speculative fiction magazine publishes fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and artwork. They publish science fiction, fantasy, myth, legend, fairy tales, and eldritch, in written, podcast, video, and/or graphic story form; see guidelines for the hard sells, and the kind of stories they won’t accept. They also accept reprints of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. They read submissions once a month.
Reading period: 1-2 December 2020
Length: Anywhere from 1,000 words and up for fiction (shorter works favored); unspecified for others
Pay: $0.06/word for fiction, $0.02-0.06/word for nonfiction, $1/line for poetry up to 40 lines (lower for longer poems)

Fireside Quarterly

UPDATE: Their reading period has been postponed – see their website for details.

They were scheduled to open a brief submission window for fiction for the Autumn 2021 issue, from 30 November to 4 December. Their guidelines say, “Our budget allows us to pay for up to 7,000 words per month, which means we are always going to buy more shorter fiction than longer stories.” Stories can be in any genre, in English or Spanish.  (Note: Fireside cancelled book contracts in 2019 – see this post on the Writer Beware site.)

Prairie Fire: For the Love of Animals
This Canadian magazine is accepting fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry on the ‘For the Love of Animals’ theme for their Spring issue. The work can be about domestic or wild animals – see their detailed guidelines for the work they want on the theme.

Length: Up to 5,000 words for fiction and creative non-fiction; up to three poems

StarShipSofa
This is a Hugo Award winning podcast. Their guidelines say, “In a word: science-fiction. From the soft, social science fiction to the weird pulpy stuff to the vigorous hard SF and YA adventure. We welcome all sub-genres and all variety of punks in all their colours. From high-octane action to quiet philosophical stories, we’re after it all. … We welcome translations and are very interested in stories that take place/written by authors outside the US/Anglo-sphere, as well as alternative movements and styles. These include (but not limited to) “non-Western” science fiction, Chinese SF, Soviet speculative fiction, Afro-futurism, etc.” The science fiction element must be the backbone of the story. They accept reprints, but not those that have appeared in an audio market earlier.
