Alternatives to Freelance Bidding Sites

If you are new to freelance writing and looking for some ways to make money as a freelance writer, you have likely stumbled across quite a few bid sites offering freelance writing jobs. Such websites allow you to review job descriptions, write a proposal, and offer a bid for your services on the project. They are often viewed as a great way to find jobs and make some money, but some freelance writers view them negatively because they feel that only the lowest bidders get assignments.

The truth on these assignments is that the lowest bid does not always win. There are some clients who will post project descriptions on these sites and who do choose to go with the lowest bid. There are quite a few other clients, though, who are more interested in finding someone qualified to do the job who can provide their services within their budgetary constraints. However, because of the often stiff competition on such assignments, freelance writers can spend a great deal of time bidding on assignments without getting any jobs to show for their efforts. So do you have to use bid sites to make money as a freelance writer today? The answer is no, and here are some other ways you can find projects to work on:

Referrals. You can definitely spread the word with your friends and family via word of mouth and social networking sites that you are available to work on any type of writing projects they have a need for. While you may love to write, other people simply cannot stand to write and would love to hire you for business blogging, business articles, marketing materials, business letters, and so much more.

Local Clients. You can also peruse the local classified ads and career websites to find possible clients. While some companies may be posting a job description for a salaried employee, you can definitely contact them with your incredibly persuasive writing skills to sell them on your freelance writing service. Quite a few freelance writers have found some great long-term clients by doing this same thing.

On Your Own. You don’t have to have clients to write for to make money as a freelance writer. There are a wide range of paying job opportunities available to you as a freelance writer. You can write articles for such sites as Yahoo Voices, Constant Content, and others. You can try your hand at writing for greeting card companies, most of which accept submissions openly. You can also try to get published in print publications like magazines and newspapers, or even write your own book or e-book. Many freelance writers have made a significant amount of money from writing for themselves, but the income from such gigs often takes more time to establish. So many freelance writers will seek income from paying clients while they also work on their own to establish income from these other sources.

There are so many different ways you can earn a living as a freelance writer. Bid sites definitely serve an excellent purpose by providing you with easy access to a wide range of clients offering writing projects of all types, but they are not the sole way to make money as a freelance writer today. Many freelance writers will work on various projects on a regular basis that include projects from bid sites as well as regular clients and even writing for their own projects as well to create varied income streams.
