The Independent’s acting travel editor is looking for travel pitches. She likes colorful, narrative stories that involve doing something that their “readers might like to, and can afford to, do.” According to payment reports, they pay an average of $0.26 per word. GEN is accepting pop-culture driven pitches from critics of color. They want “pieces that use culture as a lens to thoughtfully examine something greater.” Pitches should be sent to hanif.abdurraqib@medium.com. The Real News Network is an independent, nonprofit news network that is focused on providing uncompromising and fact-based journalism. Their executive producer is seeking “pitches related to sex work, climate change, civil rights, Palestine, labor and unions, and other progressive issues.” They pay $250+ per piece. Jamhoor is “an independent media platform for artists, writers, activists, academics and others to share their work on South Asia.” They are looking for pitches or submissions for their next issue: Climate Crisis in South Asia. They “want to explore the impact of the climate crisis across South Asia, and the approaches that left political organizations, social movements, and ordinary people are developing to combat its effects.” Pitches should be 100-200 words. In case of full submissions, poetry and prose can be of any length, while short commentaries should be 500-1,000 words and long-form/feature essays should be 1,500-3,000 words. The fashion features editor of Dazed is always seeking new writers for the fashion section. She wants writers to pitch her if they have “noticed a weird trend, want to delve into the secret history of some obscure subculture’s aesthetic, or have opinions on the industry’s goings on.” According to payment reports, they pay an average of $0.12 per word. You and Me Magazine publishes personal essays about experiences as a medical patient. They also publish some articles from provider’s perspectives. They pay 4-5 cents per word for articles 1,000-2,500 words. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.

ProHealth is a nutritional supplement company. They are accepting pitches on fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, Lyme disease, natural wellness or longevity. They are also accepting pitches on adjunct topics including EDS, POTS, MCAS, or other conditions that might overlap. They will pay $150 to $200 per piece (at least 750 words). Teaching Tolerance publishes articles for a national audience of pre-K through 12 educators with a focus on diversity and social justice. They accept freelance submissions for articles, blog posts, and lessons that reflect their perspective. They pay up to $1 a word for features and their Story Corner section. Eating Well focuses on all aspects of food and nutrition. Their motto is “Where Good Taste Meets Good Health,: and their articles reflect that. Their pieces take a scientific approach to food and provide advice on healthy eating. They’ve posted a list of columns that are suitable for freelancers, and they pay up to $1 per word.
