11 Magazines that Pay Writers $100+ Per Article

The following is a list of diverse markets (e.g., general, hobby, trade, outdoor, religious, and parenting). Before pitching editors, familiarize yourself with chosen publications: read 2-3 issues to learn about the tone, style, range of topics, and targeted audience. If writers’ guidelines do not mention that editors forbid simultaneous submissions, then submit the same query to several publications. Just make notes in your files what query you sent, when, and to what publication to avoid the embarrassment of sending several times the same query to the same publication.

If editors do not respond to your initial query, do not hesitate to inquire about the status of your query. Make sure to include “Follow-up on the query” in the subject line of your e-mail and your initial query in the body of your e-mail. Sometimes it works: I recently received an assignment after 2 follow-ups on my query! However, I would not recommend more than 3 follow-ups: if you still have no response, most likely, editors are not interested in your pitch. In this case, send them new pitches!  — Tatiana Claudy
