3 Freelancing Writing Tips to Promote Focus at Work

Different freelance writers have different peak times in their work day when they are able to fully focus on assignments. During these times in your own workday, you may be twice as productive as you are during other times. It may have crossed your mind that you could be far more productive if only you could find a way to focus and concentrate that fully on your work tasks throughout the entire workday. By following a few tips, you may be able to extend your times of peak productivity and promote your profitability.

Planned Breaks

Many freelance workers work as hard as they can until they are mentally exhausted. At those times, they take a break, and they may have a more difficult time returning to work after working so hard initially. One way to keep your work pace up throughout your entire work day is to take planned breaks. Rather than push yourself to the limit until you are mentally exhausted, take several planned breaks. Plan when your breaks will start as well as when they will stop. Knowing that you will have a break in the next hour or two often can help you to power through and focus fully on your work until that time.

Limit Distractions

If anything can decrease your focus at work, it is distractions found throughout your home. Whether it is the dog barking at passersby, the kids or roommates chatting nearby or other noises in the background, it can be difficult for most people to block out those sounds and fully concentrate on their work. You can, however, make an effort to limit distractions when possible. Plan your breaks during times when your house is most noisy, and plan work periods during those times when it is most quiet. When possible, schedule your work hours to coincide with the house’s natural quiet times. This can be far more beneficial to you than trying to force yourself to work when distractions are at a peak.

Set Goals

If you are a goal-oriented person, setting goals for yourself may be beneficial. You can establish goals based on your assignments. For example, you may want to write a certain number of SEO articles or complete a certain number of chapters in a book. You may establish goals based on income, stating that you want to work until you earn a certain dollar amount. These are just some of the many types of goals that you can set for yourself. One of the key benefits associated with using goals in your workday is that it gives you a target to aim for. When you have a target or goal in mind, you can focus your mind on achieving that goal, and you won’t stop until you do.

There are so many things that can cause a freelance writer to lose focus during the work day, and losing focus inevitably means lost income. By putting these important tips into practice, you can improve focus in your work day and achieving your income goals.
