See the Elephant is an e-zine published by Metaphysical Press. They are seeking short stories with a metaphysical slant – “fiction that questions consensual reality and pushes the boundaries of genre.”
According to their website:
At their heart, all metaphysical stories contain an ontological dilemma, or as the Turkey City Lexicon calls it, a riff ‘suggest(ing) that our deepest and most basic convictions about the nature of reality, space-time, or consciousness have been violated, technologically transformed, or at least rendered thoroughly dubious.'”
They are open for submissions until October 31st. They pay 6 cents per word, up to a maximum of $200. They accept stories between 500 and 6,000 words.
They also publish reprints, which can be a useful way to keep your writing in front of an audience.
They strive to respond within one month of submission.
They do not charge a submission fee, but that ask that submitters join their free mailing list before submitting.
