The Oxford American is Accepting Pitches for Spring 2026 Food Issue

The Oxford American is “a national magazine dedicated to featuring the very best in Southern writing while documenting the complexity and vitality of the South.” They’re accepting pitches for their upcoming Spring 2026 Food Issue. They’re seeking “stories that explore how food preserves a legacy, crosses borders, and creates connection.” They pay $300 for online articles. Campfire Stories is Seeking Stories about the Oregon Coast

Campfire Stories is “a collection of books and card decks brought to you by Ilyssa and Dave Kyu to inspire deeper connections and storytelling in the outdoors.” They’re looking for nature and place-based stories for their new Oregon Coast collection. The stories should “capture the essence of the region, highlighting the distinctive natural features, flora, fauna, community, history, and experiences of the Oregon Coast.” They accept diverse forms of writing, for example, essays, prose, poetry, ballads, and short stories. Pieces should not exceed 2,000 words.

Apartment Therapy Media's Lifestyle Team is Seeking Pitches

Apartment Therapy Media helps “people make their homes healthy, beautiful, and organized.” Their Lifestyle team is accepting “2026 pitches for stories tied to holidays, events, and observances happening in January, February, and March — think Dry January, Mardi Gras, and St. Patrick’s Day.” They’re seeking personal, original, and timely ideas across their Lifestyle verticals:

Transitions is Looking for Pitches About the Balkans

Transitions (TOL) is “a nonprofit organization established to strengthen the professionalism, independence and impact of the news media in the post-communist countries of Europe and the former Soviet Union.” They’re looking for pitches from freelance journalists, photographers, and multimedia creators covering the Balkans:

“We’re looking for original, in-depth reporting that sheds light on key issues shaping the region today. We welcome a range of formats – from written features and video to multimedia and data-driven pieces.

We welcome pitches for:

- Reported features (1,000–1,500 words)

- Photo essays with captions or short accompanying text

- Video or multimedia pieces

- Explainers or visual stories that combine reporting with graphics, data, or maps”

Open Secrets is Seeking Personal Essays that Explore Transformative, Powerful Human Experiences

Open Secrets is an online magazine that publishes memorable and revealing personal essays on the topics we are taught to keep “secret.” They’re seeking original, unpublished personal essays (1,000 to 2,500 words) that “explore transformative, powerful human experiences, especially those that are often kept secret or hidden.” Rate is $50 per essay. QueerAF is Seeking 4 Black LGBTQIA+ Journalists

QueerAF is “a platform funding queer creatives and changing the media.” For this Black History Month, they’re looking for 4 early talent, emerging, unpublished or marginalized Black LGBTQIA+ journalists to write 500-word think pieces, using their Queer Gaze format. The theme is Standing Firm in Power and Pride. Pay is £75.

Sixty Inches from Center is Looking for Pitches in Languages Beyond English

Sixty Inches from Center is a non-profit arts publication and archiving initiative that promotes art and writing in Chicago and the Midwest. They’re looking for “pitches in languages beyond English, especially Spanish (with priority to Puerto Rican & Central American vernacular), Southeast Asian languages, Native languages, and Polish.” “What do we mean by bilingual? You can either publish an article written in bilingual (for ex. Spanglish) or you can also write a full article in English and translate the article into your respective language (for ex. Portuguese & English). So far Sixty has published Oneida, Traditional Chinese, Hindi, Gujarati, French, and Portuguese, and we want to continue to represent the many languages spoken across the Midwest.” Rate is $150 per article. Streets.mn is a site that “fosters positive connections and inclusive conversations about better places in Minnesota.” They’re looking for writers, storytellers, photographers to research and write articles for Minnesota Historical Society grant:

“The grant seeks to deepen our community reporting on highway development and how the named highways have impacted the communities they are built through.

There are four topic areas we are seeking story ideas for, but we’re open to others you may have in mind, as long as they are highways built through a city or area since the 1950s in suburban and Greater Minnesota that have not had significant coverage.

- U.S. Route 14 between New Ulm and Rochester

- State Highway 36 to Stillwater

- State Highway 3 through Northfield

MIT Technology Review is Looking for Pitches on the Theme of Crime

MIT Technology Review is a media company that explains the commercial, political, and social impact of the newest technologies. For their upcoming print issue, they’re looking for pitches on the theme of Crime. They’re seeking longer pieces: “narrative features, compelling investigations, essential profiles, and super-sharp essays.” While this pitch call is aimed at journalists, experts with strong ideas are also encouraged to reach out. New Feeling is “a cooperative of music journalists and community enthusiastically covering the sounds across so-called Canada.” They’re looking to work with more writers located in so-called Canada!
