For the second of four installments of this project, they will explore the theme of \u2018The City.\u2019 \u201cWe are seeking art, words, and sounds that explore, critique, celebrate and interrogate the urban landscape, culture and environment. The city, a place, should play a central role in the work and should be a central character or focus. They tend not to publish horror. They also pay for illustrations.<br \/>\nDeadline: 1 October 2021<br \/>\nLength: Stories below 6,000 words are more likely to be published<br \/>\nPay: CAD2.5c\/word, up to CAD125<br \/>\nDetails <a href=\"http:\/\/www.neo-opsis.ca\/guidelines.htm\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Books and Bikes in Space Anthology<br \/>\n<\/strong>Submissions are open for the 10<sup>th<\/sup> annual Bikes in Space anthology, and the theme this time is books. The stories have to be about bicycling and books, from a feminist perspective. Their guidelines say, \u201cSend your most creative tales of bicycle-powered interlibrary loan on the moon, characters who literally leap out of books and go for a ride, a two-wheeled revolution sparked by seditious literature, the competing stories of steampunk velocipedists, a manual for futuristic bike messengers, a literal rewriting of gender norms\u2026\u201d\u00a0 Stories can be in any speculative or fantastical genre \u2014 hard science fiction, space opera, epic fantasy, alternative history, paranormal romance, hope punk, modern fairy tales and anything around or in between. Their guidelines say, \u201cA fun story, at its core, is one that works on the premise that things aren\u2019t all bad; that ultimately, good wins out. This doesn\u2019t necessarily mean that your story has to be silly or lighthearted (though it certainly\u00a0<em>can<\/em>\u00a0be). Joy can be made all the more powerful when juxtaposed against tragedy.
