Nyx Publishing: Queer Gothic short stories
<\/strong>They want queer Gothic short fiction. They welcome submissions featuring queerness in a broad sense. This includes perspectives from LGBTQIA+ characters, but also queering of gender and sexuality in a more abstract sense. Their guidelines say, \u201cWe love tried-and-true Gothic tropes such as crumbling castles, sketchy families, superstition, confusion over what is real or not, occultism, blurring between life and death. <\/strong>\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00adThis magazine leans very heavily towards the speculative \u2013 science fiction, fantasy, and horror. They also publish poetry and artwork. They like \u201can eclectic mix and are therefore interested to read compelling work that blurs these lines, falls outside of neat genre categories\u201d, according to their guidelines. Also, \u201cMan does not live on space ships, elves, and ghostly ax murderers alone, after all. This is a call for a fiction anthology, of cyberpunk with fairy tales. Their guidelines say, \u201cGive me a story of Rapunzel trapped in a tower of circuits rather than stones, of trolls who live under bridges as well as those who do their work behind a keyboard \u2014 or whatever passes for a keyboard in the future. What if Snow White was a computer and the apple a virus? What if Hansel and Gretel were hackers following digital breadcrumbs? <\/strong>The North American Jules Verne Society is seeking short fiction and illustrations for its upcoming anthology. This is the first anthology of new fiction ever sponsored by the Society. They want short stories inspired by the writings of Jules Verne. Their guidelines say, \u201cYour story may be set in any time or place. You may use characters from Verne\u2019s novels (they\u2019re all in the public domain) or make up your own. You need not write in Verne\u2019s style. The connection between your story and at least one of Verne\u2019s works must be obvious and significant.\u201d They also accept reprints.
