Short Fiction
<\/strong>They publish fiction, and guidelines say, \u201cWe have wide-ranging tastes and have happily published traditional character-driven stories next to non-conformist work of extraordinary innovation. We admire and love poets and memoirists, but can\u2019t accept poetry or life writing. The boundaries can be blurred in hybrid forms and that\u2019s great; if you feel your hybrid piece qualifies as fiction, send it in.\u201d Writers who have never had a short story published before should write to their \u2018Introducing\u2019 section. They opened submissions on 1 June 2020 and at the time of writing, the deadline was not specified on their website.

Fireside Quarterly
<\/strong>They will open a brief submission window for fiction in June for the Spring 2021 issue. Their guidelines say, \u201cOur budget allows us to pay for up to 7,000 words per month, which means we are always going to buy more shorter fiction than longer stories. We especially love to see very short pieces that still tell great stories and make us laugh, cry, or transport us to new worlds.\u201d They love short short stories. Stories can be in any genre, in English or Spanish.  (Note: Fireside cancelled book contracts last year \u2013 see this post on the Writer Beware<\/a> site.)

<\/strong>They accept submissions of poetry, short fiction (including novel excerpts), and creative non-fiction. They are accepting themed submissions (on \u2018Endings and Beginnings\u2019) as well as unthemed ones. They also accept translations. Online submissions are charged, but there is no fee for mailed submissions.
Deadline: 1 November for themed, 30 November 2020 for general submissions

<\/strong>This award-winning literary journal reads submissions from June to January. They accept fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Non-subscribers are charged a fee to submit online, but there is no fee for mailed submissions. Also look at Solos<\/a>, which accepts longer submissions.
