Escape Artists: Escape Pod
<\/strong>This is an online and audio science fiction magazine. Their guidelines say, \u201cWe are fairly flexible on what counts as science (we\u2019ll delve into superheroes or steampunk on occasion) and are interested in exploring the range of the genre. We want stories that center on science, technology, future projections, and\/or alternate history, and how any or all of these things intersect with people.\u201d They also accept reprints. Occult Detective Magazine<\/strong>
The magazine, formerly called Occult Detective Quarterly, wants stories about occult detectives; they also accept reviews (unpaid), non-fiction, and artwork. Their guidelines say, \u201cWe are a magazine of many styles and approaches. We love both old-style and modern, cutting edge weird fiction, and we love folk horror; we embrace unashamed arcane adventure, and we also draw gritty noir mysteries into our domain. At the heart of all these tales are the occult detectives. … They may be a mistress of strange forces, a seasoned psychic, or a burned-out law officer who has nothing left to lose. And they come from every continent, and every walk of life. All we ask is that there is a mystery, there is something strange and dark is on the air \u2013 and someone has to buckle up and face it.\u201d  The antecedents of their characters are the psychic investigators, mystics and meddlers who arose in the Victorian and Edwardian periods. <\/strong>This collection is about the lore, myths, and legends of women who dwell in the forest.<\/strong> Historically, it’s the witches, artists, and outcasts who make the dark forest their home. Writers can retell a piece of folklore or create something altogether new. They want spooky, eerie, gothic tales, stories with rich, haunting settings<\/strong> that leave out the gore and focus more on a feeling of dread and foreboding. Think dark fantasy or quiet horror.

The Binge-watching Cure: Science Fiction Edition
<\/strong>They want science fiction stories of various lengths, from 100 words to 25,000 words, and they recommend checking their Facebook and Twitter to see which length slots have been filled. They want to see all genres of science fiction – alien races, apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic futures, colonization, cyberpunk, etc. However, \u201cRemember, first and foremost, this is a science fiction anthology. It\u2019s okay if your story has some genre crossover, but we are less likely to accept an alien invasion that reads like zombie novella.\u201d

The Forge Literary Magazine
