They want stories aimed at the 12-17-year age range.\nStories should \u201cevoke a sense of wonder, have deep emotional resonance, and\nhave something unreal about them.\u201d They publish fantasy, sci-fi, horror, <strong>comedy<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>steampunk<\/strong>,\nage-appropriate paranormal&nbsp;<strong>romance<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>superheroes<\/strong>&nbsp;and many other genres.\nThey also accept reprints.<br>\nDeadline: 15 December 2019<br>\nLength: Up to 6,000 words<br>\nPay: $0.08\/word<br>\nDetails <a href=\"http:\/\/www.castofwonders.org\/submissions\/\">here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>\n<strong>Gay Mag<br>\n<\/strong>Apart from cultural criticism, personal essays, artwork and photography,\nthis online magazine also publishes short fiction. They are looking for work on the themes\nof <strong>Community<\/strong> and <strong>Power<\/strong>. They accept pitches for essays.<br>\nDeadline: 16 December 2019 for Community; 16 March 2020 for Power<br>\nLength: Can accept more work in the shorter (1,200 words) than longer (3,500\nwords) range<br>\nPay: $1\/word<br>\nDetails <a href=\"https:\/\/gay.submittable.com\/submit\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zombies Need Brains <br>\n<\/strong>They\nneed stories for three science fiction and fantasy anthologies. They are looking for a range of tones,\nfrom humorous all the way up to dark.&nbsp;They want stories which use the\ntheme in an unusual and unexpected way, and those will get preference. <strong>Apocalyptic<\/strong>\nwillfeature science fiction or fantasy stories set during or after an\napocalypse (of any kind); <strong>Galactic Stew<\/strong> will feature stories involving food, whether it be\npoisoning, a cultural or societal ritual, a trade meeting over dinner, etc (no\ncannibalism); and <strong>My Battery is Low and it is Getting Dark<\/strong> will feature stories where some type of tech has\noutlived its time and yet, during the course of the story, it discovers a new\npurpose or is used in a new, purposeful way (the theme is inspired by the\nOpportunity rover).&nbsp;&nbsp; <br>\nDeadline: 31 December 2019<br>\nLength: Up to 7,500 words<br>\nPay: Minimum $0.08\/word<br>\nDetails <a href=\"https:\/\/jpskewedthrone.dreamwidth.org\/499730.html\">here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><br>\nThe Stinging Fly <br>\n<\/strong>This Irish magazine publishes fiction\nand poetry from Ireland and abroad, and they have a particular interest in\npromoting the short story. They also publish commissioned essays, occasional author interviews and novel\nextracts, and have a \u2018Featured Poet\u2019 section by poets working toward\ntheir first collection (see guidelines). They\nwelcome translations of poetry and prose. <br>\nDeadline: 16 January 2020<br>\nLength: No length guidelines for fiction; up to 3 poems<br>\nPay: \u20ac25\/page\nfor fiction and nonfiction; \u20ac40 for single poem\/magazine page; \u20ac200 for Featured Poet<br>\nDetails <a href=\"https:\/\/stingingfly.org\/submissions\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bennington\nReview<br>\n<\/strong>This\nliterary magazine aims to carve out a \u201cdistinctive space for innovative,\nintelligent, and moving fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, film writing and\ncross-genre work.\u201d They are particularly taken with writing that is\nsimultaneously graceful and reckless.<br>\nDeadline: 15 May 2020<br>\nLength: Up to 30 pages of prose; 3-5 poems; 10-20 pages of film (or TV) writing<br>\nPay: $100-200 for prose; $20\/poem<br>\nDetails <a href=\"https:\/\/benningtonreview.submittable.com\/submit\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Grain Magazine <br>\n<\/strong>This Canadian literary\nmagazine accepts work from around the world and publishes fiction, poetry, and\nliterary non-fiction. Queries for submissions of work in other forms (i.e. short\nplays, comics, etc.) are welcome. Visual art submissions are usually by\ninvitation, though queries are welcome. <br>\nDeadline: 15 May 2020<br>\nLength: Up to 3,500 words for prose; up to 6 pages for poetry<br>\nPay: $50\/page, up to $250<br>\nDetails <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grainmagazine.ca\/submissionguidelines\">here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reckoning<br>\n<\/strong>They want creative\nwriting about environmental justice.
