Their guidelines say, \u201cWe seek vigorous, fresh writing, with well-developed and believable characters. Their guidelines say, \u201cWe are looking for speculative stories that explore ramifications of the apocalypse through queer narratives. We want queer stories and we want trans stories and we want indefinable stories. We welcome a broad interpretation of the post-apocalyptic genre; give us your scraps of hope in every ruined future (we love genre elements from fantasy, horror and science fiction). They are looking for \u201cPrivate eye stories, cozy stories, and edgy, noir-tinged stories\u2014all of which happen to contain a crime of some sort. We want stories with characters who feel real, in situations that are possible (and plausible),\u201d according to their guidelines. They do not want flash fiction, poetry, routine revenge stories, stories that feature sadism for the sake of sadism, or stories that feature supernatural elements: no vampires, werewolves, ghosts, or otherworldly monsters\u2014unless thoroughly debunked by story\u2019s end. They particularly do not want genre fantasy, horror, science fiction, romance, or westerns, unless they feature a crime. An emphasis on heightened senses would differentiate the best stories from the rest!\u201d Their reading period will open shortly.
