As I’ve written about previously, the freelance writing market has started to mature online, and there are now more opportunities for decent pay than ever. This week, we’ve found five more publications that pay $1 per word or more, with most of them being online publications.<\/p>\n

  1. Wine Enthusiast Magazine features wine ratings, reviews, recipe ideas, pairing information, news, and guides. They welcome proposals from freelance writers about wine, fine food and travel. They also accept story ideas for their website. According to one payment report, they paid $1.00 per word for a 700-word profile or interview.   2. Zora is Medium\u2019s online publication about women of color. Their topic areas include: \u201ccurrent events, culture, identity, race, justice, equality, work\/life, family, self, sexuality, parenting, psychology, spirituality, career, friendship, aging, habits, love and dating, body image, trauma and recovery, caregiving, hobbies… and the list goes on.\u201d They usually pay $1.00 per word. Airbnb Magazine is \u201ca travel lifestyle magazine featuring authentic experiences through the eyes of those who know best, the locals.\u201d Payment reports indicate that they pay up to $2.00 per word.   4. Heated is yet another new publication by Medium. They are a food site, produced in partnership with Mark Bittman.\u00a0 Like their other publications, they appear to pay up to $1.00 per word. To contact them, visit this page.<\/a><\/li>\n
  5. Experience Life is a progressive \u201chealthy-way-of-life magazine.\u201d It comes out 10 times a year and has a circulation of 700,000. They aim their content at 30 to 45 year-olds.
