We yearn for carefully crafted philosophical speculation that puzzles over the questions of the future and alternate pasts. And we have a soft spot for stories created as \u2018artefacts\u2019 (fictional, \u2018in-universe\u2019 non-fiction).\u201d They also accept speculative philosophy, and translations.

\n<\/strong>They want fiction, poetry, and art on the Hauntings theme. Their guidelines say, \u201cGhosts and hauntings have traditionally been used to exorcise our cultural and societal fears, and the ones that have the most lasting impacts are ones that address and challenge those in a deliberate way. Social issues like race, class, gender and mental health all have a place in horror and we want to read stories about them.\u201d And although they accept all genres, stories must also contain an element of horror.

\n<\/strong>This award-winning speculative fiction magazine will be open for a short period in August. They will accept flash fiction only during this time. This is their last reading period for the year, according to the open submissions periods listed on their website. Their guidelines say that they want work \u201cwith special attention to character-driven stories that examine the depths and heights of emotion and motivation from a broad variety of cultural and social perspectives. A&A wants to publish powerful stories with emotions that resonate in our minds and hearts long after a first reading, stories that make us want to read them again and again. We look for the unique: stories that stand out in a genre that pushes the envelope of unusual. We take special delight in detailed world-building: we like slipstream, YA, hypertext fiction, dark fantasy, science fiction puzzle stories, magical realism, hard science fiction, soft science fiction, science fantasy, urban fantasy, military science fiction, ghost stories, space opera, cyberpunk, steampunk . . . there is very little we will not look at, although we have a severe allergy to zombies, elves, retold fairy tales, sports, westerns, vampires, and gratuitous sex and violence.\u201d They do not publish horror. The magazine also publishes short fiction, poetry, and small press book reviews.
