This first issue will include 10 short stories that show mankind as recognizing the challenges in its own success and ready to deal with the situation in a humane way. They only publish work written by women, transgender men, Two-Spirit and nonbinary people.<br \/>\nDeadline: 31 October 2018<br \/>\nLength: Up to five poems; up to 3,500 words for prose<br \/>\nPay: CAD50 (for one page) to CAD150 (for five pages and up)<br \/>\nDetails <a href=\"http:\/\/roommagazine.com\/submit\">here<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div class=\"slide\"><strong>Literature for Life<br \/>\n<\/strong>This is a Los Angeles based online literary journal and resource for middle and high school educators, to spark a love of reading and writing. They publish fiction, non-fiction, articles, essays, short plays and poems spanning multiple genres. All work should be appropriate for use in a high school classroom. Most of the works are set in LA and are by LA-based creators, though they do take some non-Los Angeles work in each issue. See guidelines for details.<br \/>\nDeadline: 6 November 2018<br \/>\nLength: No restrictions, though stories shouldn\u2019t be so long as to be novella-length<br \/>\nPay: $100<br \/>\nDetails <a href=\"http:\/\/literatureforlife.net\/submissions\/writing\/\">here<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div class=\"slide\"><strong>Escape Artists: PseudoPod<br \/>\n<\/strong>This horror audio magazine has just opened a brief submission period. They want dark, weird fiction, and their stories range from grim realism or crime drama, to magic-realism, to blatantly supernatural dark fantasy.\u00a0Beautiful language at the expense of plot does not translate well, as it is an audio magazine. Anything holiday-themed (for any holiday) needs to be submitted, ideally, six months in advance. Every quarter, they have Flash on the Borderlands episodes that contain three flash stories\u00a0with a common theme \u2013 these are short, and quirkier and more experimental than the weekly features.\u00a0They also accept reprints.<br \/>\nDeadline: 12 November 2018<br \/>\nLength: Up to 1,500 words for flash, 1,500-6,000 for short fiction<br \/>\nPay: $0.06\/word<br \/>\nDetails <a href=\"http:\/\/pseudopod.org\/submissions\/\">here<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div class=\"slide\"><strong>Nothing Without Us<br \/>\n<\/strong>For this anthology, they want fiction about and by disabled people. Their guidelines say, \u201cWe welcome writers across the disability, mental illness, developmental disabilities, neurodiversity, blind, and Deaf spectrums. We welcome those who manage invisible and visible disabilities and\/or chronic conditions.\u201d\u00a0Fiction based on lived experiences is welcome. The lead character must be disabled, blind, Deaf, Autistic, neurodiverse, and\/or live with mental illness.\u00a0 Canadians will receive preferred status.<br \/>\nDeadline: 31 December 2018<br \/>\nLength: 1,000-3,500 words<br \/>\nPay: Currently at $0.03\/word; will try to increase this amount via Kickstarter<br \/>\nDetails <a href=\"https:\/\/nothingwithoutusanthology.wordpress.com\/submission-guidelines\/\">here<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div class=\"slide\"><strong>Zombies Need Brains: Three Anthologies<br \/>\n<\/strong>The three science fiction and fantasy anthologies are: <strong>Portals<\/strong> (stories that contain a portal opening up between two different worlds and the consequences that come from that portal; both science fiction and fantasy), <strong>Temporally Deactivated<\/strong> (stories where the author explores what the phrase \u201ctemporally deactivated\u201d could mean with regards to a person, place, or thing), and <strong>Alternate Peace<\/strong> (alternate history stories where the divergence from our timeline comes from some kind of peaceful change to our past; writers must explore the consequences of this divergence). Query for drama and review submissions. There is also an online feature, micro, which is unpaid. They accept work through their submission portal only. Writers who are disabled or incarcerated can mail their submissions, though. They accept horror, fantasy and science fiction. Also: \u201cWe&#8217;re looking for short stories from across the big classifications and those shadowy places between: magical realism, fantastique, slipstream, interstitial, Weird fiction. We will consider suspense or western, though we prefer it contain some speculative element.
