For this fiction contest, they want stories of 750-1,000 words. Their guidelines say, \u201cStories should contain lots of action, use believable dialogue, be simply written, and be relevant to the problems faced by this age group in everyday life. Children need to be able to see themselves in the pages of the magazine. It is important that the tone not be \u201cpreachy\u201d or didactic. Use short sentences and paragraphs. When possible, use concrete words instead of abstractions. However, do not \u201cwrite down\u201d to children.\u201d No stories about talking animals, inanimate objects, or biblical or historical fiction based on real events. Writers can send multiple stories. Themes relating to non-traditional family structures, gender identity, or disabilities may also be included. Manuscripts can be fiction, non-fiction or poetry, and up to 1,500 words.
