They publish a chapter of a novel, but only if it can be read complete in itself as a short\u00a0story. They also accept nonfiction and poetry (no \u201clight\u201d or inspirational poetry). These are contemporary fantasy, and sometimes science fiction with full plots and strong characters. While they\u2019re quite flexible on what counts as science fiction (occasionally publishing steampunk and superheroes), they do not want fantasy, magic realism, or more than a tinge of horror. Their guidelines say, \u201cIf your story isn\u2019t centered on science, technology, future projections, alternate history, and how any or all of these things intersect with people, we\u2019re probably not the right market for it.\u201d They welcome diverse and underrepresented writers.
