  1. The internet has come a long way<\/strong> in recent years, especially in terms of the popularity of niche blogs and websites. Many have become successful businesses, with the budget to pay more than pennies for writing. Some of these websites take on the role that magazines once did, producing specialized content centered around a specific theme.\n

    The following five websites all accept submissions from freelance writers. All of these websites pay; though payment may need to be negotiated. I’ve listed payment information when I could dig it up.\n<\/li>\n

  2. The Hairpin<\/strong> is a lifestyle blog aimed at women. They publish articles such as “single serving wine reviews” and “The Paranoid Girls of Tumblr.” They don’t list payment rates, but reports indicate payment is often around 20 cents per word.   3. Civil Eats<\/strong> covers the food industry, with a focus on the workers who support it.\u00a0 They were originally funded by Kickstarter, but now have a wide variety of corporate and institutional sponsors.   4. CityLab<\/strong>, published by The Atlantic, is a blog devoted to “the people who are creating the cities of the future\u2014and those who want to live there.” Reports indicate they pay an average of 25 cents per word for articles.   5. My Mind Body Metabolic Workout<\/strong> seeks blog posts of at least 700 words with helpful tips and wellness information for women. The compensation is $50 per blog post upon acceptance. Read their contribution guidelines here<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  6. The Motley Fool<\/strong> helps investors make the most of their money and provides financial advice of all kinds. They pay $100 for articles that are \u201canalytically sound, thoughtful, and well-written.\u201d Writers who publish multiple posts will be offered a contract for long-term work.
