The contest offers a $2,000 grand prize, as well as five runner&#8217;s up prizes of $500.<\/p>\n<p>The winning stories will be compiled into an anthology. They will be featured alongside Paolo Bacigalupi (one of my favorite sci-fi writers). The anthology will be delivered to city mayors, governors, and members of the U.S. Congress.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s theme is &#8220;Blue Sky Cities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to their submission guidelines:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For 2017, the\u00a0Futurescapes Contest theme\u00a0is \u201cBlue Sky Cities.\u201d We\u2019re seeking stories set in a\u00a0near-future city where significant strides have been made toward improving air quality, climate adaptation, or even net positive impacts on climate and air quality.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The deadline to enter is October 13, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>To learn more, visit their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.futurescapescontest.com\/\">website.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2017 Futurescapes Writing Contest is now open to submissions of sci-fi short stories.
