Authors of a book published in 2016 that “contribute to our understanding of racism and our appreciation of cultural diversity” are eligible to enter the contest for a $10,000 prize. The Fountain is currently hosing their 2016 essay contest. This year\u2019s theme is \u201cI Am an Immigrant.\u201d Contest prizes total $2,100. Essays must be 1,500 to 2,500 words. Entry is free. They dare writers “to write in order to advance the professional, literary, and scientific understanding of sea power and other issues critical to national defense.” First place is $6,000. Boyd Literary Award for Excellence in Military Fiction. The novel must be set in a period when the U.S. was at war. The Whitehill prize offers $2,500 for the best unpublished essay on early American History, with a preference for New England. The deadline is December 31st, 2016.
