The following is a list of publishers that pay writers. All of them pay at least $500 for some of the articles they publish.<\/p>\n

Even if they state their payment up front, pay rates are often still negotiated. If you’d like a great primer on negotiating pay rates, building a list of clients, and succeeding as a freelance writer, I highly recommend this book.<\/a><\/p>\n

  1. The Artist’s Magazine <\/strong>was created for artists and art enthusiasts. They showcase artists, and publish interviews, practical lessons in technique, as well as news and discussions of timely events. They pay up to $600 for features.   2. High Times<\/strong> publishes articles about marijuana cultivation and counterculture lifestyle. They have a special interest in marijuana legalization.   3. Readers Digest Canada<\/strong> pays at least $1 a word for articles. They publish columns, profiles, “rants”, first person narratives, features, and more. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.<\/a><\/li>\n
  4. Pennsylvania Heritage <\/strong>magazine is published by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission with the Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation.   5. Powder <\/strong>is a magazine for skiers. Their “mission is to come as close as possible to the expert skiing experience through words, photos, graphics, and humor.” They have a circulation of 150,000. Payment is negotiated.
