Guide to Freelance Writing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Exit 721,<\/b> the new magazine of the Georgia Writers Association, is looking for submissions. Writers who reside in Georgia are invited to submit feature pitches, short fiction, and poetry. For the spring 2016 issue, feature articles will focus on the theme of promotion. They pay $50 for features, while pay for creative writing articles is \u201con a rolling basis.\u201d The deadline for submissions to the Spring 2016 issue is <b>March 19. <\/b>To learn more, read Exit 721\u2019s<a href=\"http:\/\/www.georgiawriters.org\/magazine\/call-for-submissions\/\"> submission guidelines.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><b>The Kids\u2019 Ark<\/b> is seeking fiction and nonfiction on the theme of \u201cthe end times.\u201d They\u2019re seeking stories aimed at 6- to 10-year-olds that reflect Christian teachings, and they do not align with any certain denomination or church. They pay $100 for original pieces and $25 for reprints. They seek pitches for nonfiction articles and columns on a wide range of topics, including publishing and the writing process. They pay 10 cents per word ($50\u2013$300 per article). The anthology will feature personal essays on \u201cthe middle years of life.\u201d They pay $25 per accepted story, and contributors will also receive a free copy of the book. In addition, writers may receive royalty payments up to $25. The coastal-focussed magazine welcomes pitches that \u201cpertain to marine coastal environments in some way.\u201d Writers can pitch to the four main sections of the magazine: News &amp; Views, Features, Videos &amp; Visuals, and Quick Reads. While they don\u2019t list their pay, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freedomwithwriting.com\/freedom\/uncategorized\/hakai-magazine-1-per-word-for-coastal-writing\/\">our feature on <i>Hakai<\/i> reported they pay up to $1 a word<\/a> for features (in Canadian dollars). Its articles \u201cdraw connections between current affairs, historical scholarship, and other content that\u2019s housed on JSTOR,\u201d one of the world\u2019s leading databases for scholarly material. They note that \u201call of our contributors are paid,\u201d and while they don\u2019t list their rates, expect them to be competitive. They\u2019re looking for submissions for features on people, places, news, and other happenings. Submissions must be mailed in and accompanied by a query letter to the editor. They pay $50 to $500, depending on the length of the feature. They want \u201cwriting that demonstrates insight, integrity, and humour.\u201d They pay 20 cents per word (presumably Canadian). The magazine is mostly freelanced, so editors are always looking for new stories. Writers are invited to submit queries for both features and departments. They pay 15 to 30 cents per word. They pay $75 to $150 per article, depending on length. Above all, the magazine says \u201cits main pursuit is a love of the land and a dedication to the sporting life.\u201d They\u2019re looking for nonfiction articles on any of those topics (a full list is available in the guidelines). They don\u2019t specify pay, but our sources report they pay between 20 and 50 cents per word. Keep in mind that they do pay a kill fee of 25 percent. They don\u2019t explicitly list their pay, but our sources report between $60 and $325 an article. They\u2019re looking for \u201cnarrative features, insightful criticism, timely blog posts, or expertly composed videos.\u201d While they\u2019re open to any topic, they have a list of topics they\u2019re interested in on the guidelines page. They don\u2019t list their exact pay, but our sources report from $100 to $3,000 an article, so expect competitive rates.
