Fantastic Stories of the Imagination is a magazine of science fiction and fantasy. They publish the “entire spectrum” of both genres. They \u201clove word play, and would like to see stories with a literary bent, though decidedly not a pretentious bent.\u201d<\/p>\n
They pay 15 cents a word, with a maximum length of 3,000 words. That works out to max payment of $450 for short stories.<\/p>\n
They also accept reprints; paying 1 cent per word up to $100, with a $25 minimum.<\/p>\n

“We want\u00a0stories that cover the entire science fiction and fantasy spectrum. We love everything from magic realism to hard SF. We want a story to surprise us\u00a0and to take us\u00a0to unexpected places. We love word play, and would like to see stories with a literary bent, though decidedly not a pretentious bent. We could spend some time telling you what we don\u2019t want, but we\u2019ve found that good stories can make us buy them regardless of how many of our\u00a0rules they violate.<\/p>\n
We welcome\u00a0stories from underrepresented\u00a0communities\u00a0and cultures, and are always looking for submissions with diverse characters; it\u2019s a big world, with\u00a0room for everyone to have their story told.
